City Likely to Vote on Century Center Annexation Tuesday

The vote would not resolve the city's ongoing dispute over the area with the City of Chamblee.

The Brookhaven City Council will likely vote on the annexation of Century Center at its Tuesday meeting.

The Georgia Supreme Court last week ruled that the city was able to vote on the annexation, though it does not resolve the city's dispute with the City of Chamblee which also seeks to annex the land and nearby Dresden East homes through a referendum early next month, according to Reporter Newspapers.

Chamblee’s acting city manager and Police Chief Marc Johnson said he’s “not really surprised” by the ruling, which he described as a technicality. He said regardless of the results of the annexation referendum or the judge’s decision, the two parties will likely go back to court.

“It’s pretty much destined to be decided in Supreme Court,” Johnson said.
