Ordinance and map were originally adopted from DeKalb.

From the City of Brookhaven:

The City of Brookhaven will be conducting a comprehensive audit of the zoning map that was adopted from DeKalb County.

Mayor J. Max Davis had previously recommended that staff begin this review at a special called meeting held on Nov. 22. On Tuesday, the city council passed a resolution formalizing this process.

The zoning ordinance and zoning map were originally adopted from DeKalb in January, shortly after the city’s incorporation. Since then, Brookhaven staff and officials have identified issues in the transferred map that have caused confusion among residents and businesses.

“We complied with all zoning procedures when we adopted the map that was provided to us by DeKalb County. When we started to notice inaccuracies, we began working to verify the data immediately. It is paramount that the information contained in the zoning map is accurate and allows the city to make informed community development decisions.” Mayor Davis said.

Once all of the zoning district information is corrected and verified, the zoning map will need to be re-adopted. It will appear before the Brookhaven Planning Commission and then before the Brookhaven City Council. Residents and businesses will have an opportunity to attend public hearings for the re-adoption.
