Brookhaven Names Interim City Manager

The mayor and city council held their second meeting on Wednesday night.

The Brookhaven City Council held its second meeting on Wednesday night, and appointed Marie Lewis Garrett as its interim city manager.

Garrett served as Johns Creek's interim city manager during that city's start up phase.

The city council also contracted with Slavin Management Consultants to search for a permanent city manager.

The meeting was held at St. Martin's Episcopal School.

Mr. P2P, it is the duty of the citizens to make sure our elected officials play fair. It is a part of making sure our new government works for all of us, not just a select few. If we have to hold their feet to the fire, so be it. You evidently have a problem with that. You do not apologize for doing your civic duty. Please pass the yellow mustard!
Chris December 13, 2012 at 05:05 PM
No P2P ... why poke the bear? No matter what Council does, they are going to ridicule the decisions. Why go out of your way to ask for commentary? Just let it be.
Chris December 13, 2012 at 05:52 PM
Hambooger, I believe what he was trying to say is that when they do something good, maybe some praise is in order. Remember, what gets rewarded, gets repeated.
John Galt December 13, 2012 at 06:06 PM
HamBurger: Since your "self-importance" meter seems to be high today, can you let us common folk know whether it is the duty of citizens to bad-mouth, slander, falsely accuse and sling mud at those who are truly doing their civic duty in leading this City?
HamBurger December 13, 2012 at 06:18 PM
Mr. Chris, when I serve a customer my special hamburgers I hope they enjoy the food. But, I am not going to hang out at the table and wait for a complement. I got business to take care of. However, like it says on the bottom of the wall menu: “If you take exception to your special hamburger stick your head in the kitchen door for a replacement or a refund. And, please tell me what you did not like about your purchase so I can insure it does not happen again. We are here to serve.” Do your damndest to do your very best and everything else will take care of its self. Since when do you have to stroke politicians for just doing the job they were elected to do? Folks that run for public office expecting others to fawn all over them are in the wrong business. There is way too much of this going on as it is. Maybe they should have been actors, entertainers, or rock stars! Please pass the yellow mustard!

"The silence is deafening." As it nearly was for the column granted your commentary on the same---your---topic of "Pay-to-Play yesterday? "Come on pay to play clowns, where is the commentary about the Mayor and City Council's decision on the finance contract?" Where I just described it was above under the---your---topic of "Pay-to-Play." Not where, you are now running interference again on, "Brookhaven Names Interim City Manager," itself. When will you cease running interference on the reality of Davis having been legally obligated (as it would anyone seeking or holding public office) to have 'shunned' even the potential for conflict of interest---with with vendors or anyone else? Obviously never.
Pay 2 play? Guess not December 13, 2012 at 08:30 PM
Nowhere did I , Mr. Pay 2 Play, suggest, ask for, or seek any compliment for any public servant. I simply pointed out the overwrought, dishonest, and hysterical claims and accusations of corruption hurled at our nowMayor and others, are now shown to have been false in this very first instance. It does not fit the mold of their indignant holier than thou narrative. I simply asked for an admission or some measure of contrition for having nastily pre- judged folks before the facts were in. But per usual the burger has deflected the actual facts and haughtily addressed an issue not related to the true narrative or issue. Nothing about seeking approval or compliments just address whether or not what occurred last night jibes with your pre and post election accusations of "pay to play" -yes or no?

Just where is the "legal force" supporting the "hiring a City Manager" by a government not having been granted to do so, legislatively or by refendum, until the legal date to commence its governance: December 17? When, also, the MxGov is yet to be brought to task for its having and using even our voter registration forms here in GA? From Article VI of the US Constitution: "...the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary notwithstanding. The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution."---which certainly does not empower the MxGov to be provided, have and use (still uncounted numbers) of even our own voter registration forms here in Georgia. Yet again: "Who made this decision"? To totally ignore, the legislation and referendum (no matter how both ill-conceived and conducted) and even U.S. Constitution? Just who is above even the U.S. Constitution? For himself and everyone else?

Since your "self-importance" meter seems to be high today, can you let us common folk know whether it is the duty of citizens to bad-mouth, slander, falsely accuse and sling mud at those who are truly doing their civic duty in leading this City?---John Galt Certainly you are not denouncing Davis for "bad-mouthing," "slandering," "falsely accusing," and "mud slinging himself? Despite, and matter how often you and others parrot the master-script and project your own misdeeds onto others: from the B'Patch and Davis' own mouth and admission, go to: "Elections UPDATED- Davis: I Accepted Campaign Contributions from Vendors By Kiri Walton Oct 17, 2012 to provide services the city will need. Some of those potential vendors have contributed to the campaign of mayoral candidate J. Max Davis. Davis explained that he had 127 Comments Photos (1) Videos (1)" http://brookhaven.patch.com/articles/davis-i-accepted-campaign-contributions-from-vendors

Mayor Davis, Try as you may but you got busted and you know it. Just post as yourself. We know you are on the take.

You must not have been involved in any political situation before. Give this a year or so before we start passing out halos.

Mr. P2P, you didn’t. That was Mr. Chris. Is that your alternate persona? Special hamburger?
HamBurger December 14, 2012 at 02:40 AM
Mr. John, as a guy that slings hamburgers for a living, I think I am on the low end of the totem pole of common folk. You, however, appear to be a district #1 elitist. Good thing you do not know who I am or you would run me out of district #1! Please pass the yellow mustard!
HamBurger December 14, 2012 at 02:41 AM
I see the very qualified Ms. Marie is the “interim” city manager. Anyone want to place bets on whom the permanent city manager will be? My money is on the unqualified, yet politically connected Jeff Kellar! Please pass the yellow mustard!
"E Pluribus Unum" December 14, 2012 at 04:40 AM
Was a bio released on Marie Lewis Garrett? I'd be interested to see her background and experience. Also, how well did she do with Johns Creek? Finally, I didn't see anything in the article about a finance contract.
John Q Public December 14, 2012 at 05:12 AM
J Max told Jeff he will get the job - even if he is not qualified. This was the plan all along.
Myth of the cave December 14, 2012 at 05:13 AM
Kellar!?? Laughable! Will you retract when that doesn't happen either!? It's like you people live on the unsubstantiated accusation and when it doesn't pan out you just ignore the result/facts and start a new crazy claim so you can feed your need to pontificate negatively. I am beginning to feel sorry for you people. Still hearing crickets....... I noticed John Q. chooses not to address the original issue either. Eddie is glossing over as well. Again, me, Mr. Pay2play? Guess not- now transmogrifying into Mr. Myth of the Cave is seeking the truth, not a shadow. No halos requested just a comment on point. Was the awarding of the finance contract consistent with your pay to play narrative or not?
Chris December 14, 2012 at 05:15 AM
Spamburger, if you'll notice, Council is not sitting around waiting on your praise. That's not the point. You're taking the attitude of "If they don't hear anything from me, it must be okay. I'll only say something if I have something negative to say." In your business, if I don't like your burger, I just don't come back. The point I was making is that letting Council know when they do something you approve of tells them just as much as when you complain. Feedback is feedback. Again, what gets rewarded, gets repeated. Start to recognize a good repeat tipper and the service tends to get a little better. I know it might hurt at first, but I promising you saying something nice won't kill you.
Chris December 14, 2012 at 05:18 AM
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA ... Now that's a bet I take in a New York minute. The City Manager selected will have governmental leadership experience. That's where my money is.
Eddie E. December 14, 2012 at 01:08 PM
myth, You paid apologists can cease and desist. You need to get busy hammering out my fat tax cut!
Eddie E. December 14, 2012 at 01:09 PM
Chris, Well that rules out all the C4ND and byessers.
Chris December 14, 2012 at 02:01 PM
JQP, I'll gladly take all your money on a bet too. Maybe with you and spambooger broke, you won't have internet access anymore. Win-win for all of us in the city.
Chris December 14, 2012 at 02:03 PM
Eddie ... YES, it does. In fact, it may even rule out all Brookhaven citizens entirely. We need a professional to run the operations of the city. That's not the role of a politician or local "concerned citizen".
Eddie E. December 14, 2012 at 06:39 PM
Chris, Do they have anyone like that working for say, Calvin Giordano and Associates? Just wondering.
Political Gadfly December 16, 2012 at 07:55 PM
HamBurger Anyone want to place bets on whom the permanent city manager will be? My money is on the unqualified, yet politically connected Jeff Kellar! Say what ???? I'm politically connected and really unqualified to be the permanent city manager, therefore, I thought I was a shoe-in to be the first city manager of Brookhaven....lol. I have full faith that Mayor J.Max Davis and our 4 city council representatives will find an excellent person to be our first city manager. Mr. HamBurger, I still have a craving for a chili-slaw dog from the Varsity instead of your special burgers. My burger places are 5 Guys in Chamblee, great folks run it and Farmburger. However,if you could sneak me a cold bottle of Cheerwine, while Mrs. PG is looking the other way, I'd sure appreciate it. Thanks.
HamBurger December 17, 2012 at 12:47 AM
Mr. PG, no one makes a special hamburger like Mr. HamBurger!!! There is a problem when it takes Five Guys to make a hamburger. Besides, their product is very greasy. Farmburger? Cute little frau-frau name for a burger you can get everywhere else. As for The Varsity, when I want a chili slaw dog, I don’t whine about it, I go get one! Please pass the yellow mustard!

"myth, You paid apologists...You need to get busy hammering out my fat tax cut!"---Eddie E. You still don't get it. The team cares no more about taxes than any other item on their platform, stated or presumed, which, to them, is all prefunctory and, when need be, interchangeable sheeple fodder. It is what they are directed to do, and indeed do---and not what they say---that should matter only. All that matters to them is, if they (as they, in so many words, have to date) declare the sky is green, then the sky is green---period. And woe onto anyone who refuses to simply not get the message and submit. Woe onto anyone with the persisting expectation of any normal goverance. Any expectation that the manner and mode they adopted to achieve the position they now have will change except for the worse.
