Brookhaven Names First-Ever Police Chief

Gary Yandura was announced late Tuesday morning as the city's top cop.

 

Gary Yandura was named Brookhaven's first-ever police chief at a news conference on Tuesday morning held at Brookhaven City Hall.

Yandura previously served the City of Hiram for three years. He also served as chief of police for College Park for more than nine years.

Before College Park, he served in Illinois for 24 years at the Lake Forest Police Department where he rose through the ranks to become deputy chief.

Yandura received his Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from the University of Illinois and earned his Masters of Public Administration Degree from Roosevelt University in Illinois. He also completed numerous administrative programs in the law enforcement field including Northwestern University’s Police School of Staff and Command and the F.B.I’s Law Enforcement Executive Development Program.

Yandura is past Lt. Governor of Georgia’s 16th Kiwanis Division; chairman of the Tri-Cities Narcotics Executive Board; and served on a local school board in College Park.

Most recently, he served on a Georgia Joint Senate and House Study Committee dealing with the Sexual Exploitation of Minors, as well as, Georgia’s Fatality Review Committee, dealing with domestic violence.
