Tom Stallworth tells Patch he is reconsidering his candidacy for Brookhaven mayor.

After posting his intention to run for mayor of Brookhaven on Patch late Tuesday night, Tom Stallworth is now reconsidering his candidacy.

Stallworth posted on Patch: "Hello all. My name is Tom Stallworth and I would like to announce my candidacy for Mayor. I am a proud District 4 resident that looks forward to serving the needs of all Brookhaven residents. I did not vote in the July 31st referendum. So, I can honestly say that I have no allegiance or alliance with either the Brookhaven Yes or Brookhaven No crowds. I will be holding my campaign kickoff later this week at the Loco's Deli located at 2840 Briarcliff Road. For more information, please contact me at stallworthformayor@gmail.com."

However, when contacted later by Patch, Stallworth said, "I am reconsidering my candidacy."

Stallworth has not yet officially qualified for the race through DeKalb County. concludes on Wednesday, August 14, at 4:30 pm.

is the only other candidate who has qualified for the race.

I would expect my mayor to have enough interest in his city to at least vote in the election that created it. I would also expect the leader of a city to hold allegiance to that city and not the groups or individuals that supported or opposed its creation.

Mr. Tom, you say: ”I did not vote in the July 31st referendum.” Mr. HamBurger says: You may want to go back tomorrow and get a refund if you have already paid your fees. It would be presumptuous of me to tell you how to vote, however, there is plenty to fault you for seeing how you did not vote. Regardless, I just love free food. I will see you at Loco’s and be asking for a special hamburger. If they tell me it is not on the menu, I will be the one arguing with them and giving them step by step directions on to make one! Really, you admit you did not vote and you are running for office? Another WTF Brookhaven moment . . .

Really? . . . You are kidding, right? I am still thinking WTF? Good luck man . . . No, I’ll wait on that special hamburger . . .

I was so happy to see ANYONE running against Davis, then, the "I didn't vote" line. This fellow isn't anywhere near being a serious candidate.

Typical Patch hack job BS. Oh wait. I wonder if he was "asked" not to run like others were such as Mr Mayer. Let's do a "Poll": Do you think Mr Stallworth was asked not to run by the Yessirs in an effort to keep the vote from being marginalized by having several candidates for Mayor?

They bought and paid for this 'city', therefore they feel they deserve to appoint the 'elected' officials as they see fit.
AshfordObserver August 15, 2012 at 02:44 PM
This tom s is total bs. Meet @ locos get it?
AshfordObserver August 15, 2012 at 02:51 PM
Yes I for one thought that with a 16k salary and likely 30 hr week theline for mayors job would be a mile long.
Eric H August 15, 2012 at 03:00 PM
the thought occurred to me, in part because of the name and also because a campaign kick off should be in Brookhaven. I would like to see another serious candidate for Mayor. Nothing against J. Max but because I think it would be healthy to have the issues discussed on a citywide basis at candidate forums.

I, too, would welcome another candidate for Mayor. The voters should have a choice--a choice of candidates that want the City to succeed for its residents. Without another candidate, those wishing ill of the City will have a field day when the inevitable challenges arise--challenges that every new city has encountered and overcome. Every contract awarded will be suspect from the Hamburger Taco Peanut Gallery. (unless, of course, they won a contract, LOL). I think someone from the NO CITY side who knows politics (Politics 101) would have a good chance because of her expertise in that field. But, after all, everyone knows that "you do not file on time.".

"I would expect my mayor to have enough interest in his city to at least vote in the election that created it."---Tom S. Well, I did. Though only to see what the set-up was.

"I was so happy to see ANYONE running against Davis, then, the "I didn't vote" line. This fellow isn't anywhere near being a serious candidate."---FreddieK He may be attempting to co-opt my, if I decide to, running. As it is, not voting can be a vote too. Of cross-the-board no confidence.

"...Meet @ locos get it?..." Yup. It's definitely not Pub 71. Get it?
don Gabacho August 15, 2012 at 05:01 PM
"...the thought occurred to me, in part because of the name and also because a campaign kick off should be in Brookhaven...---Eric Then you should be happy to know that, if I decide to run, the kick-off will be under a particular, huge live oak tree in Ashford Park. If so, you'll have to bring your own lemonade though.

"Yes I for one thought that with a 16k salary and likely 30 hr week theline for mayors job would be a mile long."---AshfordObserver I'd rather see someone who needs a job and happy with the money rather than someone who doesn't need a job and unhappy about the money.
don Gabacho August 15, 2012 at 05:10 PM
"I wonder if he was 'asked' not to run..."---It's All Good Just "asked"? "Poll"? There's still the write-in option---if it not being eliminated from the ballot.
Eric H August 15, 2012 at 05:23 PM
D G you better hurry, Qualifying ends at 4:30.
don Gabacho August 15, 2012 at 05:39 PM
"...D G you better hurry, Qualifying ends at 4:30...."---Eric As I've stated before, I, as any other citizen, am not bound by any "codified rule" (even if it existed) enforcing a primary, election and referendum as flagrantly anti-democracy as this one has been. My plan is to legitimately "nullify the shebang" despite those who have surrendered and the, though no guarantee, saftey in numbers that they could have afforded; and, in any subsequent and lawful election, be elected properly. Meantime, there is the option of being elected by popular acclamation.
don Gabacho August 15, 2012 at 05:49 PM
"4:30"? It's been variously reported. From all week to three days to even 1:30 of this the 3rd day. Typical.
don Gabacho August 15, 2012 at 06:50 PM
"If there is a write in option, you got my vote don-O. BTW, is "don" with a capital 'D'?" Lower case. It's a salutation not a name. Do you know anything about how to legally describe votes cast electronically being flipped and interchanged to achieve an outcome programed to electronically reverse (when unfavorable to the ballot program's controller) the finalized returns; as set from the first returns, in percentages, reported? Interchanged even from one precint not needing a certain number of votes cast to achieve a calculated result to another precint where the same number of votes cast, though reversed, were needed? An electronic place-holder for the flipping and interchange of the votes cast would, I think, have been required. Thus the "write-in" capability of, at least, the non-straight ticket ballot and, more importantly, the "impartial" feature that could have allowed cross-voting (electronically despite the voters' presumption that their votes would register as cast)? That the sheer potential for such having happened,is sufficient cause (among many others) in itself to nullify the so-called primary election and referendum given that confirmation, one way or the other, is disallowed.
