Interesting video here. The Public Safety Director for Dekalb County is now saying--after the vote--that Brookhaven is relatively very low on the crime scale compared to other areas of Dekalb County. It must be a miracle! http://dekalbofficersspeak.blogspot.com/2012/08/north-officers-to-be-shifted-southward.html

What we normally associate as Brookhaven and Murphy Candler has an extremely low crime rate compared to other sections and cities in the county. Buford Hwy of what is now Brookhaven requires alot of police attention but not to worry the Brookhaven chief will soon be in front of the Brookhaven Council saying something akin to " a force of just 46 sworn officers, it is growing increasingly difficult to maintain adequate visibility and reduce crime" . Just saying... :)

You mean 53 officers. But yes he may very well do that. And the job of the Mayor and the Council will be to assess the needs and balance the desires of a department head with the costs and benefits of such desires. I understand why the a Police Chief may ask for more, his focus is, as it should be, on Police Coverage and what in an ideal world where there were no competing interests or costs would be. And I do think the Police Chief was also referring to our stretch of Buford Highway.

And just who may be the new Police Chief? As reported by Brookhaven Patch, a police representative of "Chamblee's Police Department" who may visit a "First Responders Event" in Ashford Park tommorrow?

Mr. don Gabacho, great! So as a new city we give up a stellar police force maligned by a group of folks with a well orchestrated and successful machine to alienate DeKalb County, insult our police department, and bring in someone less schooled in effective policing and alternatively, stellar at issuing revenue generating tickets for J. Max Davis’s new city? Yeah baby! I hope he likes special hamburgers!

Jim-- how about burying the hatchet? It was a contest where there was a losing side and a winning side. Sore losers are not becoming. And continuing the fight when everyone really needs to come together and make Brookhaven a success really does no one any good. It was a good fight. And 55% -45% margin would, in a Presidential election, be considered a landslide. Why not sign up for a committee and put your considerable talents to good use?
HamBurger August 07, 2012 at 04:03 AM
Mr. Phil, that’s funny! Everyone knows all the committees are already selected from “YES” folks! The rest of us just need to get ready to do our duty and obey our new masters! Man! I hope our new masters like special hamburgers!

"The rest of us just need to..." get this co-called new city nullified. Is the Brookhaven No web site still available?
Eddie E. August 07, 2012 at 03:47 PM
Phil, You wanted it, you make it happen. Remember, those north of Peachtree are a fickle bunch, so you probably have about two years to make things perfect, or the game is over.

You can count on any police chief of any city constantly asking for more money, whether they really need it or not. That is reality.
Jack of Kings August 07, 2012 at 07:35 PM
The game is over? What does that mean? A coup?
Eddie E. August 07, 2012 at 09:11 PM
If you consider replacement of all those who helped dig the hole in the first or second election a 'coup' then I guess you prove my point. You only have until December, better get to steppin'.
Jack of Kings August 07, 2012 at 10:11 PM
Eddie...no offense. I now proclaim you winner of the "Peanut Gallery Wars". I have lost...because I cannot do what you do all day here. Nothing satisfies you. Every thing is a conspiracy. Pessimism is your mantra. Suggestions that you contribute now that we have a city is met with angry responses. I am exhausted. Congratulations.
