Brookhaven Begins Work on New Sidewalks

Work begins on Briarwood Way on city's first birthday.

Brookhaven began pouring cement for new sidewalks today, according to a press release from the city.

Crews are starting on Briarwood Way in District 2, but sidewalks will be added in each of the city’s four districts. The new sidewalk will extend 1,000 feet from entrance of Briarwood Park to Drew Valley Road to improve pedestrian access to Briarwood Park.

In October, the mayor and council identified several locations for the construction of new sidewalks in each district.

“We are excited to improve pedestrian access and safety throughout the city, particularly on this one-year anniversary of Brookhaven becoming a city,” District 2 Councilman Jim Eyre said in the press release.

Work on Briarwood Way is expected to last until Thursday, weather permitting.  Motorists should expect a partial lane closure.
