Thanks for the correction, and the updates schedule!
HamBurger August 17, 2012 at 01:59 PM
Very interesting schedule! I only see one mayoral candidate listed. Did the other three mayoral candidates choose not to appear? Or, were they never informed about these candidate forums? If you have been paying attention you already know the answer to this question! Please pass the yellow mustard!

The Friends of Briarwood Park group (District 3) has set up the meetings discussed here. Seems to me the forums are open to anyone who wants to speak. If the other candidates for mayor tell us that they have tried to get on the schedule and been denied I would feel differently. I'd like to see each district hold something similar to let the voters get to know their candidates and what they plan should they get elected. I'll even take the initiative to try to set something up for District 2. What district will you get involved in HamBurger?

Hoping the increased visibility at the Park/Rec Center will garner the attention of the soon to be elected officials. DeKalb County failed to do anything other than lip-service. City proponents touted the local accountability and they will be expected to listen to their local Brookhaven taxpayers who have asked DeKalb County to significantly revitalize Briarwood Park.

"If the other candidates for mayor tell us that they have tried to get on the schedule and been denied I would feel differently."---Corey Self What? Why would they have to tell you ("us") "that they have tried"? Unless you ("us") hadn't informed them as the other candidates must have been or their "having to try" too?
HamBurger August 17, 2012 at 07:17 PM
Mr. Corey, “Seems to me the forums are open to anyone who wants to speak. If the other candidates for mayor tell us that they have tried to get on the schedule and been denied I would feel differently. “ How disingenuous of you. Candidates for mayor cannot make an appearance if they are not informed of the event. Although you specifically may not be at fault, you are well aware that these candidates were not informed about this series of forums. Instead of correcting this glaring error, you choose to conceal this fact making their omission intentional instead of an oversight. Everyone knows just who is running for what elected offices in Brookhaven. Specifically folks associated with C$ND and Brookhaven Yes. What we have here is just another charade. Do you have some extra thin sliced onions and pickles?
don Gabacho August 17, 2012 at 07:43 PM
Why wasn't the event announced publicly---to inform one and all---prior to your announced schedule? So far, it appears to me that the candidates announced to have been scheduled only are the candidates not to vote for.
don Gabacho August 17, 2012 at 08:07 PM
"What we have here is just another charade."---Hamburger Mr Hamburger, with all due respect, "charade" is my word as much as yellow mustard is your mustard. You may use "masquerade" until you pass me my Gulden's please. In which case, I will pass you your yellow (French's?). BTW, I haven't had a car since my last one was, I suspect, dosed with Karo. If so, the least they could have done was respect my Yankee-ness and used Log Cabin. Not being a culinary matter, I'll be discussing the pros and cons of just which syrup is the ultimate gas-saver additive with a real expert.

For the record, I am not in any way affiliated with the Friends of Briarwood Park group that is organizing these forums. However, seeing that an email announcing this went to over 100 individual email addresses, was posted on the Drew Valley, Brookhaven Fields, and Ashford Park community bulletin boards, and the information has been posted on both Patch and Brookhaven Reporter, I'd say the Friends of Briarwood Park group has done a pretty good job getting the word out. If any candidate was not previously invited by the group organizing the forums, I would hope they would receive word of the forums and be able to participate. On a separate note, I have personally contacted most of the candidates for District 2 and Mayor and asked them if they would be interested in a public forum in District 2. The exception is Thom Shepard because I do not yet have an email address for him. Rest assured, I will find him and invite him as well. I have not yet heard back from all of the other candidates, but assure you that all were invited. Stay tuned. What have you done to better your community today?
HamBurger August 17, 2012 at 09:32 PM
Mr. Corey, I spoke to Brookhaven Park and it is pissed that all of the candidates running for office were not properly informed about the upcoming forums. The Park likes to think that it is open to all. It is the Park’s opinion that the individual responsible for contacting mayoral candidates for notification knew exactly what he was doing with his omissions. My good deed for my community was keeping C$ND and Brookhaven Yes straight regarding informing candidates about events they may want to participate in. Furthermore, I have done your homework for you. You now have no excuse. Nor does anyone else from C$ND and Brookhaven Yes attempting to contact qualified Brookhaven candidates. If we had REAL news outlets in this city . . . City of Brookhaven Qualified Candidates http://web.co.dekalb.ga.us/voter/pdf/BROOKHAVENQC.pdf Please pass the yellow mustard!

JD dropped? Rebecca Chase Williams . . . Favored Brookhaven Yes candidate . . . Cover herself and editorialize about herself from her own rag . . . Another day in Brookhaven! Yeah baby! Special hamburgers all the way around!

" What have you done to better your community today?"---Corey Self For the record: Inform you, and all, that I have reached my decision regarding my running for Mayor by popular acclamation. Likewise, Councilperson from Ashford Park.

HamBurger - Thank you kindly for the link. I've now contacted Thom and forwarded my previous email to the addresses provided in that link for all candidates that had not yet replied to the email sent to their other email addresses. I greatly appreciate your assistance in keeping the lines of communication open for all.

I wonder how many people stop reading these boards just because they see 50 posts daily from the same anonymous poster. Take a break, HamBurger. Or at least give US a break. Please.

BahHumbugger @ 5:35 - Just another example of puppetry arts. Please pass the vaseline.
HamBurger August 18, 2012 at 02:39 AM
Mr. BM, yeah, I know sign up only to drop out? Special hamburger?
HamBurger August 18, 2012 at 02:39 AM
Mr. Phil, according to site hits, not much has changed. However, the posts ebb and flow depending on the subject being discussed, information provided, and time of the week. Alternatively, I wonder how many folks are less energized about your new city because of your constant selling of a product that is not based on any of the tools (out of date Vinson study) used to sell it. Our newly elected officials can vote as they feel necessary to make the new city viable based on sound budgeting that will eventually be available to them. Folks are starting to think what they may have voted themselves into and they are beginning to have concerns about the hard sell from Brookhaven Yes and area cities who themselves have issues downplayed in recent weeks. Some are finally realizing that a new city will eventually result in tax increases from both Brookhaven and DeKalb County beyond what they would receive in unincorporated DeKalb. Push it, Mr. Phil, please continue with your posts, and let us know just how beautiful your new city will be. You unwittingly may become Mr. Hamburger’s prime assistant in pointing out your new city flaws. While contemplating your navel, and your next move, would you like a Cheerwine and a special hamburger?
HamBurger August 18, 2012 at 02:41 AM
Mr. Chad, I just want to make sure you have this link so you can contact all of the mayoral candidates and district #2 and district #3 council candidates about any future candidate events you may schedule for folks in your area. Selectivity before the ballot box just may not work in your favor. City of Brookhaven Qualified Candidates http://web.co.dekalb.ga.us/voter/pdf/BROOKHAVENQC.pdf Please pass the yellow mustard!

And, folks are becoming aware that a loose cannon, inattentive, absent, or inexperienced person elected to office could result in city expenses beyond their wildest dreams. This is Realville now, and not a popularity contest. Just because he brought you to the dance does not mean it would not be prudent to let someone more balanced cut in and finish out the evening. I look forward to your continued posts, Mr. Phil, they are very enlightening and give me good guidance. That is lint, Mr. Phil, the special hamburger is over here . . .

Phil @ 9:49p - Just wanted to let you know that I answered your questions about DeKalb County's CEO form of government, staffing levels, effectiveness and efficiency in the other article thread. Hope you find the time to go back and read them.
Brookhaven Maven August 18, 2012 at 04:35 AM
BaHumbugger @ 11:05p - "a loose cannon, inattentive, absent, or inexperienced person elected to office" That pretty well eliminates all of the known candidates. What now? Please pass the K-Y.
Jack of Kings August 18, 2012 at 12:42 PM
I really hope that HamBurger is not running for office in Brookhaven. The negativity and hostility shown to anyone who argued for a City would seem to be an insurmountable hurdle for that candidate. HamBurger: Cheerleader for Brookhaven to Fail Please pass on those inane "pass the mustard etc." phrases.
Brookhaven Maven August 18, 2012 at 08:27 PM
Phil @ 8:42a - Did you read my responses to your questions about DeKalb governance, as indicated in my 12:17a message on this thread? Will be happy to provide details.
TomMiller August 19, 2012 at 01:56 PM
Thanks for holding the forum. I'm going to take a wild guess that there will be more than 30 of these before it's said and done and i PROMISE you the people taking pot shots on this thread will be bitching about how many there are. Don't let them bother you. They couldn't sway any voters other than themselves in the vote. The no's got their butt kicked in the election, and now their south dekalb bosses are taking it out on them.

"And, folks are becoming aware that a loose cannon, inattentive, absent, or inexperienced person elected to office could result in city expenses beyond their wildest dreams---Hamburger That's not necessarily true. As Mayor and Conselperson from Ashford Park I would, for only one example, eliminate salaries for tax accessors and collectors and use the money saved for our parks beginning with the restoration of the basketball court in Ansley Park.
don Gabacho August 19, 2012 at 03:12 PM
"I really hope that HamBurger is not running for office in Brookhaven."---Phil I have it on good word that Hamburger is actually Maxx Davis. Note the Wimpy paunch.

I am glad to have the total list of qualified candidates and their contact info. It's the first piece of truly useful information I have received from this blog. It is somewhat difficult to understand why, instead of spouting off with "bile and venom", or whatever the phrase was (I don't have time or inclination to go back and hunt for it), those who wish their district's candidates to know about a forum don't just send them an quick email with the information. If you believe there's an unfair or skewed level of published information, hush up and do something about it. Here again is the link, with all names, addresses, phone numbers and emails: http://web.co.dekalb.ga.us/voter/pdf/BROOKHAVENQC.pdf

FYI - There is a candidate forum for District 2 candidates on Thursday September 27th at 7pm at Ashford Park Elementary. I've not seen this published anywhere else yet but Russell Mitchell, candidate for district 2 has it on his Facebook page here... http://www.facebook.com/pages/Friends-of-Russell-Mitchell-for-City-Council-District-2-Brookhaven-GA/150961755044879
