Briarwood Park Forms Leadership Group

The group's next meeting is in August, with plans in the works to create a board of directors and identify improvement projects.

Editor's Note: This report comes from Rob Turner, who attended a meeting earlier this week regarding the formation of a :

"A very good discussion.  Evelyn Ellington, director of the Rec Center, spoke about the strong desire to have a Friends of Briarwood Park group get involved and assist with identifying and offering more programs at the facility.

"According to Evelyn, DeKalb County closely analyzes the number of programs offered and program attendees when considering when/how to allocate resources to improving parks.

"Ayanna Williams from Park Pride also spoke in more detail about what a Friends Of Briarwood Park group can do.

"The attendees agreed to nominate Chad Boles, a nearby Briarwood resident, as the primary contact person for the Friends of Briarwood Park group that will
be created with Park Pride's guidance. I agreed to be the alternate contact person.

"The next step is to hold a follow-up Friends meeting at the park next month where we complete the organization. We're looking to create a board of directors (ideally with representation from the six to seven surrounding neighborhoods/condos) and to establish a working list of key improvements to the park grounds, pool and facility that the group can focus on.

"This Facebook page will be used as a starting point for circulating an online survey seeking responses from the neighborhoods on what they want to see improved upon at the park."
