Senate Committee Passes Brookhaven Cityhood Bill 4-3

The amended bill retains the name Brookhaven.

In a vote of 4-3, the Senate State and Local Governmental Operations Committee passed HB 636.

The change did not come without some concessions, including an amendment that prohibits any member of the General Assembly from serving as city attorney for a period of four years. Additionally, the committee accepted the bill's sponsor, State Rep. Mike Jacob's proposal to change the name back to Brookhaven from Ashford.

The committee met Tuesday afternoon in the Senate's Mezzanine Room 1 at 2 p.m.
