Victim Fights Off Attacker, Sends Suspect Running for the Hills

Here's a look at some of the incidents that have been handled recently by the Chamblee Police Department, from Officer Alex Cushenan.


4/1/13 - Entering Auto, 5300 block of New Peachtree Road, 2 pm. Victim left a Wells Fargo money bag between the front driver’s seat and center console. When the victim returned to the vehicle, the driver’s side window was shattered and the money bag containing $1,000 was missing.

4/1/13 - Burglary, 4800 block of Buford Highway, overnight. Cleaning crew observed a hole through the rear wall. Several cell phones were missing and the business ransacked.

4/2/13 - Entering Auto, 5700 block of Peachtree Boulevard, 5 pm. Victim left her back window down and returned to find her purse missing.

4/7/13 - Person Armed, Terroristic Threats, 3100 block of Chamblee Dunwoody Road, 3:30 pm. Restaurant security was cleaning the location when two males entered and produced a butcher knife. The two suspects cussed at the security guards and told them they were going to be killed. One of the suspects then threw the knife, missing the guards and the two fled the scene. Officer Vargas and the security guards chased the suspects on foot and placed both suspects in custody.

4/7/13 - Criminal Attempt, Robbery, 1800 block of Chamblee Tucker Road, 8:45 pm. Victim was walking home from the store when he was attacked from behind by a White or Hispanic male, 6’2 ft, 200 pounds with short black hair and wearing a black shirt and red and black Nike shoes. The suspect told the victim, “Don’t fight me, white boy.” The victim studies martial arts and while on the ground punched the suspect in the face, fought his way back to his feet, and kneed the suspect in the groin. The suspect then fled on foot towards the trail behind Wal‐Mart that leads to Keswick Park.

4/8/13 - Burglary, 3100 block of Coral Way, 6‐7 pm. Victim stated she went next door for 45 minutes. She left her front door unlocked and upon her arrival home, her flat screen TV was missing.

4/9/13 - Entering Auto, 1800 block of Chamblee Tucker Road, 5:30 pm. Victim was unsure if he locked his vehicle. The victim was gone for 15 minutes and returned to find his back pack, a Notebook PC and I‐Pad missing.

4/10/13 - Burglary, Carroll Circle, 10 am‐7 pm. No signs of entry could be found. Victim reported several items missing including: a flat screen, laptop, tablet, and $16,000. Sixteen thousand. Dollars ... of cash.

4/13/13 - Possession of Cocaine, 3200 block of Chamblee Dunwoody Road, 5:30 pm. Officer Winfield observed a male entering the apartment complex’s laundry room. The suspect became nervous when he observed the patrol unit and quickly closed the door. Officer Winfield decided to investigate further and entered the laundry room to find the male holding a rolled up $5 bill and snorting a white powdery substance that tested positive for cocaine.

4/16/13 - Criminal Attempt Armed Robbery, 5300 block of New Peachtree Road, 9:30 pm. Victim was approached by three black males in their late teens or early 20’s. One suspect was wearing a white shirt and had curly hair in a Mohawk style haircut. While the victim was entering his vehicle the suspects pointed a handgun and stated, “Give me your keys”. The victim ran and screamed for help and the three suspects fled toward the Chamblee MARTA station. MARTA police later reported that an out of breath teen with a Mohawk asked to use another victim’s cell phone and then took off running with it.
