Police: Missing Chamblee Girl Gave Conflicting Stories

An 11-year-old Chamblee girl was found safely at 11:39 p.m. Tuesday at the Chamblee MARTA station after missing for approximately seven hours Tuesday evening. Chamblee Police still don't know exactly where she was or what she was doing during that time, Chamblee Police Capt. Donny Williams told Brookhaven Patch Wednesday.

"She gave us conflicting versions of what happened," Williams said. The girl, Mohosana Hamid Jakiya, said she needed time away because she was dealing with something "personal in nature."

Although police cannot release details of what the girl told them, Williams said they have lined up professionals for her to speak with and investigators are checking her stories.

Mohosana was seen around 4 p.m. Tuesday walking on Sexton Woods Drive near her school, Chamblee Middle. Her family called police at 5:20 p.m. when she had not arrived home.

Nearly 50 officers from the Chamblee, DeKalb County and Dunwoody police departments were searching for Mohosana in two locations Tuesday night, but it was a MARTA bus driver who spotted her sitting on a bus bench, Williams said.

The driver recognized Mohosana from a lookout alert the Chamblee Police Department had issued earlier Tuesday night when the search began at 6 p.m.
