Pedestrian Hit by Train Near Cherokee Plaza

Police, rescuers on the scene.

A man is recovering from serious injuries at a local hospital after he was hit by a train Wednesday afternoon, police said.

Capt. D. Tracy, assistant commander at DeKalb County Police Department's North Precinct, said the train was operated by the Norfolk Southern Railroad Company and was traveling north near the intersection of North Druid Hills Road and Colonial Drive near Cherokee Plaza at 5:08 p.m.

Tracy said the man sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital. Tracy said he could not confirm the extent of the injuries due to HIPPA laws, but, "he was alive at the time of the incident." Tracy said he was unsure what hospital the man had been taken to. The incident, Tracy said, is now being investigated by the Norfolk Southern police.
