Final Defendant Pleads Out in Chamblee Child Shooting Death

On Friday, February 8, 2013, the accused shooter and final defendant to be tried in connection with the 2010 shooting death of an 11-year-old child in Chamblee plead guilty to all charges.
Cody Dane Bauer, one of three teens arrested for the Feb. 11, 2010, fatal shooting of Nicholas Sheffey, entered his plea in DeKalb County Superior Court. Bauer was sentenced by DeKalb County Superior Court Judge Coursey to life without the possibility of parole plus an additional life sentence and 675 years.

In a 59-count indictment, Bauer, now 21, along with co-defendants Alexander Sidloskas and Stedmund Anthony, were accused of malice murder, felony murder, several counts of aggravated assault, and additional charges of illegal gang activity.
Sidloskas and Anthony took pleas last year and were sentenced to 50 years with 25 years to be served in prison and the remainder on probation.

Nicholas Sheffey was asleep in his bed when he was struck in the head by a bullet intended for his older brother. The shots were fired by Bauer, a member of the Crips criminal street gang. Bauer was arrested less than 24 hours after the crime and the handgun used in the shooting was recovered by police.
