DeKalb Cop Involved In Local Nightclub Altercation

An off-duty DeKalb police officer was involved in an altercation at a local nightclub in late December, in which he claimed he was knocked to the ground by an unruly guest.

The incident occurred at the La Rumba Club on Buford Highway at 2:20 am on Dec. 23. The officer states in the police report that he was working an approved part-time job at the location when club security escorted an unruly guest out of the establishment. He then saw the man strike another male outside the club, and ordered him to stop.

According to the police report, the suspect, Edwin Boyzo, pushed the officer into a nearby car, causing him to trip over the curb. Other off-duty DeKalb officers then intervened. Boyzo was charged with simple assault and battery of a police officer and resisting arrest.
