From the City of Brookhaven:

The Brookhaven Police Department’s command, supervisory and investigations staff were sworn in today by DeKalb County Sheriff Thomas Brown.

Being sworn in by the county sheriff enables these officers to make arrests statewide.

The extension of arrest powers to municipalities is common between county and municipal law enforcement agencies, especially for officers who are likely to travel outside of their jurisdiction while performing law enforcement duties.

“The effectiveness of the Brookhaven Police Department has been greatly increased through this partnership with Sheriff Brown," Brookhaven Police Lt. Brandon Gurley said. “We will now be able to follow investigative leads outside of our city that will help us locate and arrest those responsible for committing crimes in Brookhaven.”
