Recently the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta’s
Brookhaven Club and CA Technologies hosted Tech Girls Rock Atlanta. More than 100, local Atlanta tween and teen
girls participated in an all day, hands-on
workshop focused on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM)
Girls were broken up into groups and rotated between interactive activities including computer coding, decoding cryptography problems and a STEM-focused scavenger hunt. Additionally, CA Technologies employees were onsite to serve as mentors, group leaders and panelists.
“Building excitement around STEM learning is a top priority for CA Technologies,” said Erica Christensen, VP, Corporate Social Responsibility, CA Technologies. “Through our partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of America and our Tech Girls Rock initiative we hope to help level the playing field and let these young women, who are part of a generation defined and enabled by technology, know there is a place for them in this field.”
Tech Girls Rock evolved from a long-standing partnership between CA Technologies and Boys & Girls Clubs of America and incorporates two core CA Technologies focus areas: the advancement of STEM learning and women in IT. To date, more than 1,500 girls have participated in Tech Girls Rock workshops throughout the United States.
Since the initiative kicked off, Tech Girls Rock workshops have reached teen girls across the country in locations including Bellevue, WA; Boston, MA; Chicago, IL; Las Vegas, NV; New York, NY; Plano, TX; San Francisco, CA; Scottsdale, AZ ; and Tampa, FL (photos at links). Upcoming workshop locations include Raleigh, NC; Loveland, CO; Santa Clara, CA; St. Paul, MN; Chicago, IL and Manassas, VA.
