Rabbi S. Robert Ichay, 83, Spiritual Leader
"I love people for what they are, not for what you expect them to be," he was quoted as saying.
Rabbi S. Robert Ichay, the Brookhaven spiritual leader who prided himself on his service and relationships with others, died at home Monday succumbing to his battle with lung cancer. He was 83.
Although a highly respected spiritual leader in the Atlanta community, it was not uncommon for him to reach out personally to parishioners simply to check in.
He was a rarity among men, according to his friend Albert Maslia, who recruited Rabbi Ichay to Atlanta more than four decades ago. He was a humble man who saw himself as a servant above anything else, Maslia said.
