Woman Killed in Peachtree Road Accident 'Followed Her Dreams'

Sarah Gilliland was buried in her hometown of Arcola, Ill., on Saturday.

Sarah Gilliland was a Illinois-born girl with dreams to explore the United States. Her journey led her from the Land of Lincoln to Phoenix before she landed in Atlanta, eventually finding work at The Bat and Ball Pub where many Brookhaven residents first met her.

Gilliland, 35, was killed early in the morning on Sunday, Aug. 11 when she was struck by a car while crossing Peachtree Road just north of Dresden Drive. Funeral services were held Saturday in her hometown of Arcola, Ill., a small, rural city of roughly 3,000 two and a half hours southwest of Chicago, according to an obituary published in The Herald & Review in nearby Decatur, Ill.

She was listed as a Chamblee resident.

From the obituary:

Sarah enjoyed cooking and photography. She had a gift of capturing memories with family and friends. She also loved to watch and attend sporting events. She was a fan of the Phoenix Suns, Atlanta Falcons and an extremely loyal Chicago Cubs fan.
