How Much Does Brookhaven Give To Charity?

The Chronicle of Philanthropy found that people in Brookhaven donated more than $54 million to charity in 2008.

A wide-reaching new study from the Chronicle of Philanthropy that examined the amount of charitable giving in every zip code in the country found that people in zip code 30319 are very charitable.

In this zip code, more than $54 million was donated to charity with a median contribution of $3,568. Out of a median discretionary income of about $75,000, that's about five percent total donated to charity.

The Chronicle further breaks down the 30319 data by income brackets:

The Chronicle's study, which uses data from 2008, found some other interesting patterns around the United States. Red states tended to have more charitable giving than blue states, the Southeast gave the most of all four regions studied and Georgia ranked eighth overall in giving.
