Storm Clean Up Update: Debris Removal

Brookhaven public works crews will coordinate with DeKalb County sanitation to haul away trees and debris that were removed from Brookhaven roadways by Georgia Power and the city after the recent storms.

DeKalb County sanitation will commission extra trucks and personnel along pick-up routes this week to remove cut up debris, particularly in areas north of Peachtree Road where the storm caused the most damage.

Sanitation trucks will pick up unlimited amounts of debris placed on the roadside based on their standard yard waste pickup criteria:

  • Limbs/branches cut in lengths no more than 4 inches in length and piled neatly
  • Logs 50 pounds or less
  • Loose litter/leaves/twigs etc in yard waste bags or containers

Since this storm event was not declared a disaster by DeKalb, there will be no special removal plans and fees will not be waived for a special request pickup.

If residents are unable to cut the debris, they can request a special pickup with DeKalb at a cost of $100 per truckload with a $50 minimum charge.

Per the county's web site, any tree removal done by a professional tree company should be hauled off by that company and not placed on the curbside.
