There is no such thing as a "Brookhaven" school or a "Chamblee" school. They are all DeKalb County School System. This list has left off Montgomery and Huntley Hills that also feed into Chamblee High, and has listed none of the schools that feed into Cross Keys. Our schools often reflect a area of common interest, which may be true for Chamblee, but Cross Keys, while in Brookhaven is fed by elementary & middle schools in Doraville.

While the list above was short of the mark, so, too, is the comment about Cross Keys. Cross Keys attendance area serves over 6,500 students spanning four municipalities - DeKalb, Brookhaven, Chamblee, and Doraville. Our families send their children to five elementary schools and two middle schools at Sequoyah in Doraville and Path Charter in Brookhaven. There are one thousand students at Woodward Elementary and another thousand at Montclair Elementary, both in Brookhaven. Dresden ES serves families of Chamblee and Brookhaven and DeKalb areas. I think to dismiss these schools and the children in them as somehow not in our community of interest is simply off the mark. They are squarely in our community of interest and the children know it though we adults seem to fail to see it. They move freely between Chamblee, Doraville, and Brookhaven. They have friends and jobs in all three areas. They interact in academic and extra-curricular programs at both high schools and both high schools have programs that serve non-attendance area students. We have students at CKHS that transferred from Chamblee and Chamblee HS has students that transfer from CK. Both Chamblee and Cross Keys attendance area ARE part of our community and DO reflect a common interest. Perhaps the view that they are NOT both worthy of our support is the reason why $80m is spent at Chamblee HS and $16m was spent on Cross Keys HS. Shameful in my opinion.

Kim I am not following your comment. Did someone delete a post that said something negative about Cross Keys?

My friend and neighbor, Tom Hogan, did not post anything negative but his comment above has an implication that I fight against literally on a daily basis: "Our schools often reflect a area of common interest, which may be true for Chamblee, but Cross Keys, while in Brookhaven is fed by elementary & middle schools in Doraville." Many in Brookhaven are only becoming aware that Cross Keys, Woodward, Dresden, and Path Charter even exist. I (obviously) strongly believe these schools have been for decades, and remain today, part of our "community of interest." It is my weakness and daily challenge to maintain perspective that I am in a minority in this view.

I would also add with all respect that there are MORE children living in Brookhaven attending Cross Keys schools than there are attending Chamblee schools. This fact does not correlate with the attention, or the money, showered on the two schools. This has been my clarion call to Brookhaven since long before we became a municipality - we have public schools to be proud of in Cross Keys, Woodward, Montclair and Path Charter.
