Marist School eighth grader Julia Denniss made history last week as Georgia's first three-time winner of the annual Georgia Association of Educators State Spelling Bee. The 14-year-old Fulton County resident will now represent the state in the Scripps National Spelling Bee Championships in Washington, D.C. on June 1-2.

Moving to a new school is daunting when you are in high school, moving to a new country seems unfathomable. But Mpaza Kapembwa, 18, did just that when he moved to Atlanta from Zambia in the 9th grade, having to adjust to not only new friends but an entirely new culture at the same time.

The president of a local homeowners and business association announced Tuesday night that the organization paid The Georgia Institute of Technology and Clark Atlanta University a total of $25,000 for aΒ  six-month study to determine the financial and social benefits of annexation and/or incorporation of Brookhaven.

The third phase of the Johnson Ferry East renovation project has begun as workers were clearing the land and beginning initial phases of what is anticipated to be a two-year construction project, said Housing Authority officials.

Brookhaven Bolt Gearing Up for Fourth Year

With an estimated 1,000 runners expected to dart through the Ashford Park community, the Brookhaven Bolt is anticipated to be the largest one to date, organizers said.
