Entrepreneurial Vision and a Trip to the Dentist Tonya Lanthier: Dental Hygienist and Web Entrepreneur

DentalPost was created by Tonya Lanthier, RDH - a dental hygienist for over 14 years. The company facilitates communication between dental offices and employees solely for the purpose of employment.

A career calling may arrive in a unique or even dramatic way.  For young Tonya Lanthier that call was a bicycle accident and the need for emergency dental work.  The attending medical team was so kind and reassuring that it actually became a “very positive event” for eight-year-old Tonya.  The tiny seed of a future dental career was planted.
Fast forward several years.  Registered dental hygienist (RDH) Tonya Lanthier, an established dental professional for ten years, decides to take a break to have a baby.   “Baby” turns out to be twin baby girls!
Sometime later as Tonya considered returning to work, the challenge of being a mom and finding employment became obvious.  Traditional job searching was too time consuming and stressful.  About this same time she began receiving calls from other hygienists and past associates in the dental field requesting assistance with making professional contacts and connecting to available jobs.   In addition, a growing number of doctors and dental offices were calling Tonya in need of locating qualified candidates for particular jobs.
And, now, another small career seed took root for Tonya.  With web technology exploding, the job market more intense than ever and the need for a specialized dental networking resource, Tonya launched DentalPost.
The business model is simple:  Create a user-friendly website and connection point for dental professionals and dental employers to find one another.  Tonya’s love for the dental field and her flare for connecting and networking with others was a natural for her talents, skills and motivation.  As she says, “I love helping people and networking.  It’s my passion!”
DentalPost is a completely free service for those seeking employment.  Potential employers usually pay a very inexpensive fee (compared to other job boards) to either post a job opening or access the resumes in the DentalPost data base.  The job seeker can search openings, post a resume and apply for most positions on line – all totally free of charge.  Also, job candidates receive email alerts about specific openings appropriate for their professional profile and targeted to their particular skill set.
DentalPost simply connects the job seeker with the potential employer.  Once the two parties make contact, job specifics are reviewed and other details discussed prior to the job offer being made.  All hiring details and arrangements are transacted between the candidate and employer.  Other than the employer paying a small charge for posting a job and/or accessing the DentalPost resume bank, there are no other expenses.

In a few short years DentalPost has grown impressively to a network of some 25,000 dental employers and 250,000 dental professionals.  According to Compete.com, DentalPost is the number one trafficked dental job site with respect to page views and site visitors. Overall, the DentalPost business has grown an average of 35% - 40% each year for the past eight years.  Available jobs on the website range from dental hygienist and lab tech to dentist and front office help.
Tonya has been recognized in Access Magazine, a publication of the American Dental Hygienists’ Association, for her success as a business professional and working practitioner.
In addition to continuing some clinical work with patients each week, Tonya oversees the growth and development of DentalPost with a creative bent and eye to the future.  The business is growing nationally and internationally with job placements occurring throughout the United States and Canada.
Innovation and creativity are key components to the success of DentalPost.  The recent launch of an app for job seekers allows for immediate submission of job applications via a mobile phone.  Also, the organization will introduce push notifications for mobile apps along with an app for employers to post jobs, review resumes and manage their accounts.
Tonya Lanthier is a hands-on business entrepreneur with a passion for her profession and a talent for connecting people.  As a high capacity business woman, dental professional, wife and mother, she is a person devoted to the idea of helping others and making the world a little bit better.  As she says, “I cherish my relationships in life.  I think this is why we are here, to be good to each other.”
