Man Credited With Brokering Town Brookhaven Deal Starts Own Company

Jeff Fuqua left the Sembler Company in March.

Following the retirement of Sembler Founder and CEO Mel Sembler, former Sembler president Jeff Fuqua announced his departure and the launch of his new company, Atlanta-based Fuqua Development.

According to the Atlanta Business Chronicle, Fuqua took with him several Sembler colleagues, including vice presdient Heather Correa.

Fuqua spearheaded the multi-million dollar Sembler mixed-used development Town Brookhaven, which now boasts 33 retailers, including two apartment complexes, communications giant AT&T, big box retailer Costco, and the luxury in-theater dinning concept CineBistro.

Fuqua, a Denver native, told the Denver Post that he still plans to work on one larger deal in Atlanta with Sembler during the transition.

Sembler announced in a prepared statement that Ronald P. Wheeler, the company's former Chief Operating Officer, will now lead the company. Gregory S. Semlber, Mel Sembler's son, replaces his father as the new board chairman. Mel Sembler remains on the board as chairman emeritis.

“As we celebrate 50 years in business, it is a great honor to be chair of the company my father created and I look forward to his continued counsel as we move forward. This transition is the result of a strategic plan to continue the growth of our company,” Greg Sembler said in a press release.

“I am, of course, pleased to pass the chair to my son Greg, confident that he and his brother Brent, vice chair, will uphold the fine legacy of The Sembler Company,” Mel Sembler said in the same prepared statement. “We are very excited about the future of the company, as developers, owners and providers of our retail real estate services to our valued clients."
