A 25,000 square-foot expansion is planned to start this Spring for in Cherokee Plaza, store officials confirmed Monday.
Speculation surrounding whether the store was planning to expand followed the this year which for years was situated in Cherokee Plaza at a space adjacent to the grocer. Kroger spokesperson Glynn Jenkins said in early October that plans to expand were speculative. Jenkins said today, however, that he recently received confirmation of the plans from Kroger's engineer group.
"With Brookhaven’s growing population of busy professionals, we want to renovate this location so that we deliver the products, amenities and lower prices our customers appreciate," Jenkins said.
The multimillion-dollar will include a new store front, new decor, upscale elements in service department and a walk-up pharmacy window. The new store size is estimated to 81,700 square feet.
The proposed project would tentatively start in April 2012 with a completion date in the spring of 2013, Jenkins said.
