Big Peach Opens in Town Brookhaven on Monday, March 18

Five Questions With ... Jared Carlson, Big Peach Running Co. general manager.

Having been in Cherokee Plaza for eight years, Big Peach Running Company will officially open its relocated store in Town Brookhaven on Monday, March 18. Here are Five Questions With GM Jared Carlson:

1. So why the move to Town Brookhaven?

Carlson: We have been located in the Cherokee Plaza shopping center since we first opened our doors in May of 2004.  Our goal from day one was simple - to grow the lifestyle  Whether that is running, walking, hiking, you name it.  Learning to take advantage of our great city.  Over the years, we have simply outgrown our current space.  With the development of Town Brookhaven growing so much over the years, it was just perfect timing for us. And it kept us in the heart of Brookhaven.

2. Any regrets from leaving Cherokee Plaza?

Carlson: Yeah, Cherokee Plaza has been home forever, so it will be bittersweet leaving. However, we are super excited about a new, more spacious location to serve our guests.

3. Tell us about the history of the store. How did it all get started?

Carlson: Mike Cosentino, the most knowledgable and enthusiastic individual I know when it comes to running and walking realized years ago that Atlanta was such a great city for running and walking.  Big Peach Running Co was founded as a way to not only create a store, but to create a community in which we can all learn and share our passion for living an active lifestyle.

4. Any new features that your new location will have?

Carlson: Obviously, we will continue to carry our core products - functional footwear, apparel and accessories, but we will be branching out a bit to create a nice product mix.  We will be carrying a broad selection of casual footwear, some lifestyle apparel pieces and some fun, brand new items that folks might not expect us to carry.

5. On a personal note: I'm 51, in pretty good shape but with tricky knees. If I want to start running again, what's the best advice you can give?

Carlson: Knee pain, shin pain, and plantar fascitis are some of the most common running or walking related issues we see.  Getting fitted properly for a good pair of shoes can definitely help A LOT in the equation, but allowing us to teach you some stretching techniques, ways to strengthen the knee can help tremendously.  Knee pain is not fun.  However, we are up for the challenge and will get you back on your feet.
