City to Host Food Trucks in Blackburn Park

The Brookhaven Food Truck Roundup will be held Sept. 4.

Brookhaven will celebrate taking over city parks with a series of food truck events at Blackburn Park.

The city will host the first Brookhaven Food Truck Roundup at 3501 Ashford Dunwoody Road on Sept. 4 from 5-9 p.m., weather permitting.

The event will be held the day after the city assumes control of its 11 parks from DeKalb County. On Aug. 13, the Brookhaven City Council and DeKalb County Commission voted on an intergovernmental agreement for the city to assume control of parks and recreation Sept. 3. Under the agreement, the city also reimburses the county $3.2 million for police and parks services.

The food trucks are designed to be a weekly event to generate community interaction and city morale around the parks. The events are scheduled to be held Wednesday evenings at Blackburn until the end of October.

The city is hosting the food truck celebration in conjunction with Fork in the Road, a joint venture between food truck provider Happy Belly and the Atlanta Street Food Coalition. The food truck company also hosts events in Alpharetta, Kennesaw, Midtown Atlanta and Stone Mountain Park.

Each week, the event will feature a different variety of dinner and dessert vendors, as well as music and children’s entertainment. Limited seating will be provided. Attendees are encouraged to bring picnic blankets or lawn chairs.

β€œWe are excited to showcase the beautiful parks we have in Brookhaven and provide an opportunity for neighbors to connect with each other,” Mayor J. Max Davis said.

This report was provided by the city and edited for publication.
