Patch Watch: Dresden Drive Near Bamby And Brookline

A sidewalk and guardrail above a creek looks to be in dire need of some TLC.

A reader called this spot to our attention: what appears to be a very dangerous location on Dresden Drive just west of South Bamby and Brookline Circle.

This is a section of sidewalk that crosses over a small creek, near the Drupung Loseling Monastery. The safety rail is a great deal of disrepair, with "caution" tape lying on the ground. The guardrail also looks to be in dire need of replacement.

Part of the problem is with the Draft Environmental Impact Statement that this particular Standard Metropolitan Statistical Area (SMSA) holds. The presence of a Thermal Gradient has caused an unusual wearing occurrence of the Tubular Thrie Beam Retrofit Rail. I have inquired several times regarding this anomaly and it becomes a purely scientific equation. Most of the terrain lies within a Zone Centroid whereas a Pozzolanic Emulsified Asphalt would be the best method repair this. Another issue is that the area is located beside a water way. This complicates matters greatly as the EPA and EPS have to become involved and permitting could take years. It is possible that an Aggregate Base Course layer could be applied and the installation of a Cofferdam or perhaps a Commodity Flow Deck Slab Repair would correct the problem once and for all. I do believe a 3R project has been discussed although I do not know where it stands to date. These projects are designed to extend the life of an existing highway surface and to enhance highway safety. These projects usually overlay the existing surface and replace guardrails. 3R projects are generally constructed within the existing highway right-of-way, however. I think that once the Hinge Point (P.V.I.) is finally established, repairs will be relatively expedient. Hope this helps. Thanks. TT

Oh please permitting a fix of an existing bridge with the EPA and EPS does not take years. Bottom line this is just another example of DeKalb's lack of regard for pedestrians.
