Patch Pets of the Week

Seven animals were adopted this week from the Dekalb County Animal shelter, but others still await homes.

The past week has been a good one for the pets and employees of the Dekalb County Animal Control shelter, and we here at Patch couldn’t be happier about it.

We are thrilled to report that seven of the shelter’s longtime residents were adopted this week, two of which were recently featured in our “Patch Pets of the Week” column.

Last week’s featured feline, Gina, finally found a home after being in the shelter since November 2009, and rat terrier Busbee, the first dog we highlighted in our column, also found his forever home this week.

Of course, there are two sides to every coin, and while there is plenty of happiness to go around for Gina and Busbee, there are still hundreds of animals remaining at the shelter.

Take Monet and Picasso. The brothers came into the shelter as kittens in July and have since grown into handsome young cats. They would make picture-perfect pets with their beautiful black and white marking and playful, curious, and friendly dispositions.

Because Money and Picasso have shared a cage since their time at the shelter, it would be best if the two could remain as a pair, although they can be adopted individually.

For those who would rather have a much larger four-legged friend, there is Davie.

He is a 65-pound black lab retriever with big soulful ayes, an abundance of energy and a cheery personality.

Davie likes to go on walks and loves playing fetch. Because of his larger size and energy level, he would do best in a home with an active individual or family.

To meet Monet, Picasso, Davie or dozens of other animals in need of a home, visit the Dekalb County Animal Control shelter at 845 Camp Road in Decatur. To inquire by phone, call (404) 294-2996.
