Senate Committee May Study City of DeKalb Idea

Some lawmakers are discussing the idea of a City of DeKalb that would be created out of all the unincorporated areas of DeKalb County.

State Sen. Gloria Butler, D-Stone Mountain, will chair a Senate study committee on the incorporation of the city of DeKalb, according to Neighbor Newspapers.

Her office said the other committee members are Sens. Steve Henson, Gail Davenport, Emanuel Jones, Jason Carter, Ronald Ramsey and Fran Millar.

24 Hours of Booty Bike Ride for Cancer Research Debuts in Sandy Springs

Sandy Spring seems a natural home for the 24 Hours of Booty bike ride. It’s home to the largest Booty team in the country, Team Pirate Treasure, which has 104 participants in this weekend’s event. Pirate Treasure leader, John Manser has held happy hour events over the last two years to recruit cyclists. They have raised about $67,000 for cancer research, so far this year.

“With the economy, all the Booty rides have been down a little bit,” he said. Last year Pirate Treasure raised more than $77,500.

McDonald's to Replace Atlanta Diner?

McDonald's may replace the Atlanta Diner on North Druid Hills Road, according to Tomorrow's News Today.

McDonald's has applied to DeKalb County with a request to reduce on-site parking, the popular development blog reported.

Martha Stewart to Visit Buckhead Home Depot

The Home Depot in Buckhead will host a free interactive décor workshop this month featuring Martha Stewart.

Stewart will visit the Buckhead store on Piedmont Road on Saturday, Oct. 20.

Through an interactive workshop, attendees will learn how to easily and affordably transform rooms in their homes to reflect their personal style preferences.
