Community Corner

Murphey Candler Park Workdays

Shane Boyer (a graduate of Chamblee Charter HS) and Karen Whitehead are co-chairs of the Murphey Candler Park Conservancy, formerly Friends of Murphey Candler Park.  They are planning two workdays at which CCHS students may earn service hours or simply make a contribution to their community.  Everyone is invited to participate.  You will be picking up trash, removing invasive species such as privet and ivy, generally cleaning up the dead branches which have fallen from trees during the winter, digging up liriope which has planted itself in the woodland areas, etc.

The Murphey Candler Park Conservancy will be working on two Saturdays, March 17 and April 21, from 9 am until 2 pm or whatever time people can spare.  There will be a check-in table on Candler Lake East on the gravel parking area near the tennis courts and near the corner of Nancy Creek Way and Candler Lake East.  CCHS students should see Karen or Shane to get their work hours confirmed.  They should bring their own water and work gloves and wear protective clothing, as there is always a possibility of being near poison ivy.
