Eagle Scout Earns His Badge For a Brookhaven Project

His Eagle Scout project took pace at the DeKalb Services Center in Brookhaven.

Aaron Taylor of Boy Scout Troop 129 will be awarded his Eagle Scout on February 10.

Aaron chose to complete his Eagle Scout project at the DeKalb Community Service Board's DeKalb Services Center because he is related to one of the clients there and the Troop has a longstanding relationship with the Center. In fact, this is the seventh Eagle Scout project the Troop has completed at this developmental disability day program in Brookhaven.

Staff identified benches as a need and requested that they be small and portable so they can be placed outdoors or inside in classrooms. Aaron created a simple versatile design with pressure treated lumber and built 10 benches with the help of his fellow Scouts.Β

"It was really nice to be able to help out the Center since they have done so much for Denny over the years," said Aaron.

Aaron's father, Michael Taylor, said the parents at the Center gave a generous $300 donation for the project. That was exactly what Aaron needed thanks to Cofer Brothers for selling the materials at a significant discount.

"Cofer Brothers in Tucker is absolutely amazing for their support of Eagle Scout projects," said Michael, who also serves as Vice-Chairman of the Troop 129 Scout committee.

Aaron is a senior at Parkview High School and has been involved with Scouts since age 8. He is currently co-enrolled in the Maxwell High School where he is taking culinary arts classes. Cooking was the first merit badge he earned, and he hopes to make a career as a chef.
