DeKalb Rape Crisis Center is now Day League

Name change comes after work with branding agency.

DeKalb Rape Crisis Center unveiled its new name, Day League-Sexual Assault Care and Prevention, at a Thursday night fundraiser.

Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed, honorary chair of the event, helped launch the new brand, signaling "a new day for metro Atlanta and Georgia’s sexual assault survivors," a news release said.

From the news release:

"For the last year and a half, DeKalb Rape Crisis Center (DRCC) has had the privilege of working with Matchstic, an Atlanta branding agency. They selected DRCC for their “On the House” program, where they partner with other creative agencies to offer a complete rebrand totaling over $85,000. DRCC/Day League is now rolling out the result of 18 months of research, focus groups, stakeholder interviews, strategy sessions, and design work. Matchstic guided DRCC through their professional process, treating the nonprofit like a corporate client.

"Matchstic recommended a name/logo change for several reasons: potential clients and funders were regularly mistaking DRCC for a DeKalb County government agency; sexual assault survivors, particularly those under 30, were not comfortable contacting an agency with the word “rape” in its name; and the name/logo did not invoke the feeling of hope that DRCC gives survivors. DRCC needed a name that could demonstrate what they do for clients, not just in DeKalb and Atlanta, but in Georgia and the southeastern United States.

"As Day League, the agency will continue to take over one-third of the sexual assault crisis calls in the State of Georgia, it will continue to be the only sexual assault center in metro Atlanta that offers bilingual services, and it will continue to be the only center in metro Atlanta that offers support for teen survivors of sexual assault. Moving forward, Day League will expand its outreach so that people who need help (whether they are in Decatur, GA or Decatur, IL) will find it. At the same time, Day League will increase prevention work by educating the public, in the hopes that sexual assault care is, someday, no longer needed.

"Because they have been so inspired by the organization’s work over the last year, former board chair, Andy Rogers, and his wife Shelley, have committed $25,000 to kick off Day League’s annual campaign. Those interested in supporting Day League should visit dayleague.org or call (404) 377-1429."
