Brookhaven's Whiz Kid

A weekly feature highlighting the best of Brookhaven's Kids!

  • Alex Chalmers, 16
  • Chamblee High School
  • This Junior is proof of the success of Chamblee's Magnet program!

Alex Chalmers, 16, is a great example of how important it was for the county to keep the magnet program at Chamblee High School. This National Honor student is a Junior at Chamblee and a testament to hard work and dedication.

Not only does Alex excel academically, he is on the cross country team, and has managed the girls Varsity soccer team for the past three years. He started in the magnet program at Kittredge in the 4th grade, and has continued through the years, attending Chamblee Middle and now Chamblee High.

"It is a great program, and a great school, and has really challenged him to be the best student he can be. He is definitely well rounded," said his mom, Ariane Delong. "It is so nice because there are students of all races and all socioeconomic levels, and they all do well."

He also plays guitar, and is in a band, The Gentlemen Broncos, with his younger brother, also a student in the Chamblee Magnet program.

Whatever he chooses to pursue when he starts college in 2012 we know he will be ready to tackle it head on with the preparation this local school has given him!
