Brookhaven's Whiz Kid

A weekly feature highlighting the best of Brookhaven's Kids!

  • Amanda Glover Bradley, 18
  • Senior, Marist High School
  • This Harvard bound student is the epitome of an all around good student

Being one of nine kids could make it difficult to stand out in the crowd, but Amanda Glover Bradley, a Senior at , has blazed her way to the front of the pack, proving that she is a leader among leaders.

Bradley, who was recently named a Gates Millenium Scholar for 2011, one of only 1,000 selected out of 23,000 applicants, is headed to Harvard in the Fall, with a background that few could compete with.

She is not only the student body co-president of the Senior class, a position she also held her Junior year, but she is a member of the National Honor Society, the National French Honor Society, and has served as both president and vice president of the Future Business Leaders of America.

Clearly not one to sit still, she is the captain of the varsity basketball cheerleaders, as well as a cheerleader for the football team, a member of the colorguard for three years, has been a retreat leader for three years, and takes numerous AP classes.

"I enjoy doing everything I do, I wouldn't do it if I didn't enjoy it," she said.

Her road to Marist is a true story of dedication and hard work, starting out in Atlanta Public schools, and taking part in the Reach for Excellence program at Marist in sixth, seventh and eighth grades. She was nominated by her school, and spent every other Saturday at Marist, as well as 6 weeks in the Summer, and she knew this school was the right fit for her.

Bradley doesn't spend her summers lazing around the pool, but does work study at Marist as well as helping with their cheerleading camp. And, as if she isn't busy enough, she is looking for an internship for her last summer home before college. Lest you think she is all work and no play, she does enjoy hanging out with her friends and taking a big trip - with her big family - every Summer.

Hoping to study either government or economics at Harvard, she recently visited her future Alma Mater and is excited for what the school, and her future, holds.

"I loved the diversity in the students there, not only in just race but the things they do, how they grew up, where they are from. I am very excited to have the chance to attend the school," she said.

However we think that Harvard should be excited to have a future student like her!
