Celia Hinojosa, the 13-year-old Chamblee Middle School student reported missing last week, was located by Chamblee Police Sunday evening.

A family friend said that a resident saw Celia's picture on a flier and notified police of where they thought she may have been. Police then responded to the location and found her with friends, the family friend said.

DeKalb County Police issued a Be On the Lookout (BOLA) alert for Celia who before Sunday, was last seen walking down Apple Valley Road toward Dresden Drive on Feb. 9 at 8:30 a.m.

A DeKalb County school bus carrying students from Chamblee High School was involved in a crash on I-285 eastbound near Peachtree Industrial Road. A driver of an SUV made an improper lane change, which caused the accident. None of the student were injured, but traffic was backed up for more than one hour.

More than 50 residents turned out to Montgomery Elementary School for Commissioner Elaine Boyer's first of two budget hearings in District 1, which includea Brookhaven.

 Chief amont residents' concerns was the toll the  government-funded pension for county employees is taking on an already stretched budget. 

The County Board of Commissioners must send the budget for approval to CEO Burrell Ellis for his signature by March 1.

A season with championship aspirations abruptly ended for the Chamblee girls Wednesday night at Tucker High School.

In a shocking upset, Miller Grove defeated the No. 1-ranked (AAAA) Lady Bulldogs 43-41 in overtime in the quarterfinals of the Region 6-AAAA Tournament, knocking Chamblee out of playoff contention.

Miller Grove handed Chamblee — which won the teams' first meeting by 22 points — its first loss on the season and clinched berth in the state playoffs. Only the top four teams make it to the playoffs from each region, leaving Chamblee (23-1, 16-1 region) on the outside looking in.

Memorial services for Erik Downes - the student who went missing in Costa Rica Jan. 4, and whose body was recovered days later - are planned in Boston next month.

According to Erik's father, Elvis Downes, the services will be held Sunday March 6 at Hyde Park Seventh Day Adventist Church located at 6 Webster Street in Hyde Park, MA. The time of the services are scheduled from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.
