Brookhaven Weather Update: 400 Power Outages

From the City of Brookhaven at 1:20 p.m.:

As Brookhaven crews continue to treat city roadways, city staff are keeping a close eye on power outages affecting approximately 400 Brookhaven customers.

Brookhaven Public Works crews have been plowing, salting and clearing city roadways and bridges since early this morning. Icy precipitation has subsided briefly giving the three crews a few hours of rest before they return to work. They will be treating key places in preparation for the return of snow/ice precipitation this afternoon. 

Although priority one roads have been treated, they are not safe for regular travel. Roads and bridge conditions are being closely monitored by Brookhaven Police and Brookhaven Public Works.

With resources available, the city cannot clear secondary roads at this time. Road clearing efforts are geared toward keeping the priority one roads passable for first responders.

Mayor J. Max Davis asks residents to avoid driving unless it’s an emergency.

City officials and staff have also been monitoring power outages in Brookhaven. Outage numbers fluctuate as Georgia Power crews make repairs. At this time, there are approximately 400 Brookhaven customers without power. Public Works crews have been dispatched to several locations where downed power lines have been reported in order to verify that the outage isn’t due to a fallen tree.

Power outages must be reported to Georgia Power at www.georgiapower.com / 1-888-891-0938. Once reported, residents have the ability to monitor the status of power outages online. Please consider all downed power lines as active. Do not touch them.

Residents should report any downed trees in roadways to Brookhaven Public Works via the emergency maintenance line (404) 637-0540. Tree removal crews are on standby.
