Primrose Summer Campers Donate More Than $200 in Pet Food and Supplies to Pet Buddies Food Pantry

(Dunwoody) July 25, 2013 – For the past month, more than 35 Primrose Summer Campers have been learning about precious pets and what it takes to help them. Their Precious Pets program culminated with a donation of over 50 canned and dried pet food items and supplies to Pet Buddies Food Pantry, a not-for-profit organization keeping pets and families together during hard financial times in Georgia.

“At Primrose Schools, our Precious Pets drive provides an opportunity for children to experience the special value of helping others, including animals,” said Cami Nail, Primrose School of Dunwoody. “Through hosting the annual pet food and supply drive, we’re not only able to teach them the importance of lending a helping hand, but we’re showing them how they can make a difference.”

Pet Buddies Co-Founder, Dee McGowan and her beautiful dog Kelly visited the summer campers to talk about how "It's cool to care for pets". Kelly was so much fun to meet and really made a great impact on the students. The campers learned that she is a mixed breed dog, part Jack Russell Terrier and part Pit Bull and was rescued by Dee when she was a puppy. Kelly has been wonderfully cared for and greatly loved since then and it shows. She enjoyed meeting the students and showed how well behaved any dog can be.

Animal shelters and humane societies have seen tough times, especially during these uncertain economic times. According to The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, approximately 3 million to 4 million dogs and cats are euthanized in shelters each year. Millions more are abandoned in rural and urban areas.

Precious Pets and other character-building programs are all part of Primrose Schools’ Balanced Learning® curriculum, which uniquely blends character development, academics and play for Dunwoody - area children.
