Last summer we called readers' attention to a stretch of sidewalk long Dresden Drive that was in serious disrepair. The sidewalk near Dresden and Bamby and Brookline had been virtually uprooted. The safety rail over the adjacent creekbed also was in disrepair. Well, on our way to cover Brookhaven's first-ever pothole repair last week, we saw where the sidewalk had been replaced and some very sturdy steel fencing had been placed over the bridge. Nice to see that this stretch of walkway along one of Brookhaven's busiest thoroughfares has been repaired. Thanks to those who did the work! …
I first made the right turn from Brairwood Road onto North Druid Hills (across from Brookhaven United Methodist Church) decades ago, in my grandfather's Oldsmobile 88 ... and promptly found the right rear tire dragging itself up onto the sidewalk. Over the years, I haven't gotten any better at making that turn. It's tough enough to make when the intersection is clear, and there's no margin for error when traffic is heavy. This intersection is one of the tightest right turns in Brookhaven or Chamblee. It's also one in dire need of some serious trash pick up, as these photos taken Tuesday, July…
A reader called this spot to our attention: what appears to be a very dangerous location on Dresden Drive just west of South Bamby and Brookline Circle. This is a section of sidewalk that crosses over a small creek, near the Drupung Loseling Monastery. The safety rail is a great deal of disrepair, with "caution" tape lying on the ground. The guardrail also looks to be in dire need of replacement.
OK, so we're not going to take credit for any of this, but a Patch reader sent us this photo Monday morning. Last week, we featured the intersection of Windsor Parkway and Hermance Drive as being a spot that could use a little maintenance and care. Well, looks like someone (and we don't know if it was DeKalb County or one of the many dedicated and selfless volunteers who reside throughout Brookhaven Patch) did some major grass cutting and cleanup since then. Also, Chamblee Mayor Eric Clarkson tipped us off on this item. Seems as if the city's public works crews have been hard at work on the …
A reader alerted Brookhaven Patch to a stretch of sidewalk near the Lynwood Park community that could use a little TLC. Sure enough, we found this corner of sidewalk at Windsor Parkway and Hermance Drive that is overgrown, sunken in and, all in all, in need of cleaning up.
These traffic cones outside a home on Nesbitt Drive have been in place for weeks on end. But the damage itself occurred months - maybe years - ago: upended asphalt that seemingly resulted from tree roots growing and expanding under the roadway itself. We're officially placing this little portion of our community under Patch Watch: places and locations that could stand a little scrutiny and bear a little more attention. Do you know of a road that needs repair; a sinkhole that needs filling; an intersection that needs a little more signalization; a sidewalk that is needed; or any place that …
