On Monday, June 11, Ellis will be meeting constituents at the home of Carolyn and Trey Benton, 3511 Sunderland Circle, from 7 to 8:30 pm. The following night, he will be at the residence of Tim and Toni Morrison, 7 Brookhaven Drive, also from 7-8:30 pm. Ellis said he has held more than 50 of these gatherings since he took office. Republican incumbent Elaine Boyer will face opposition within her own party in the race for the District 1 seat on the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners. Larry Danese will challenge Boyer in the July 31 primary, according to information from the DeKalb County election's office. Danese served as Kathie Gannon's representative on the county's planning commission before challenging Boyer for the District 1 seat in 2008 as a Democrat. Two Republicans are vying for the chance to face District 81 incumbent state Rep. Scott Holcomb this November. Chris Boedecker and Carla Roberts both qualified last week to face Holcomb, a 39-year-old Democrat who just finished his first legislative session. State Rep. Elena Parent was the incumbent for District 81. However, she and Holcomb were both drawn into the same district this past legislative session. This past Friday, Parent announced she was taking a position as executive director of Georgia Watch, a statewide consumer advocacy organization, and would not seek re-election. Holcomb …
State Rep. Mike Jacobs has drawn a Democratic challenger to his District 80 seat. Sandra L. Murray, a 65-year-old computer consultant, will seek to unseat Jacobs on the November 6 general election. Jacobs, who drafted the Brookhaven cityhood legislation that will appear on the July 31 ballot, was first electioned to the state House in 2004. He currently chairs the House MARTA Oversight committee and vice chairs the influential Judiciary committee. Two Republicans who represent much of Brookhaven and Chamblee qualified to run for re-election today at the state capitol. State Rep. Mike Jacobs, R-80, and state Sen. Fran Millar, R-40, will run again this fall. Jacobs is the author of the Brookhaven incorporation issue that will be appearing on local ballots on July 31. Millar represents much of Dunwoody.
State Reps. Elena Parent and Scott Holcomb - two Democratic incumbents who have been reapportioned into the same district - will announce who is running for the District 81 seat on Friday, May 25, at noon. The lawmakers will hold a press conference at the state capitol, where candidate qualifying began on Wednesday and will continue through Friday. Both Parent and Holcomb have referred to each other as friends and colleagues, and are widely considered to be rising stars within the Georgia Democratic Party.
