Some Sad Faces Result From Brookhaven Bruster's Closing

The restaurant was located in the Cherokee Plaza parking lot.

One of the casualties of the new Kroger construction going on in Cherokee Plaza has been the Brookhaven Bruster's.

The store was also the home of Nathan's Hot Dogs.

Several people were on Twitter over the weekend, lamenting the loss of the Bruster's, including Atlanta sports radio personality Steak Shapiro.

My wife and son will particularly miss the store's banana-split specials, in which you could bring your own fruit to the store for a specially made treat.

I will miss them since it was such a great location to drop in on. Here's my recommendation....stop in on Greenwood's ice cream on Peachtree Industrial (near Galla's Pizza) and buy your ice cream there. Been doing it for years. It's not only a 'best keep' secret but also some of the best tasting ice-cream in the world.

Kroger wanted Bruster's closed so it could have more parking for its renovated and greatly expanded store while doing as little as possible to improve the overall center. It'll ill be ugly and dangerous to drive & walk there for any who are afraid they'll miss that too.

A larger Kroger will mean MORE over-ripe seafood & surly employees for all of us!!! An even bigger store where the staff cannot be reprimanded or re-trained due to union rules! YIPPEE!!!

Kroger will have a landscaped parking lot with trees and a sidewalk landscaped with bushes and trees going down the side of the parking lot to the front of the store. The plan looks attractive and a definite improvement to the current layout. You might want to check the plans before judging it as "dangerous to drive and walk."

I go to Kroger all the time because I like the employees and the prices. Sorry you have had that experience.

My dear Phil:

FK has a long history of demonstrating a surly attitude about almost all things he posts.

Let's not malign the good people at Kroger's! And much success to Brusters. You'll be missed!

I will not miss Brusters - I thought it was overpriced for what you got. I am comparing this to the mom and pop ice cream shops in the mid-atlantic and New England areas where one typically receives twice as much for the same price charged by Brusters.

Since they are redoing the parking lot, maybe this time the main access aisle will align with their steep driveway! They always put as many parking places that they can fit into these lots at the detriment of safe and logical operations!

But Eric, the commute to those is a bit long and time consuming! Besides prices are up everywhere.

Regardless of how I might feel about the Kroger expansion, I've always received excellent service from the employees and I have been shopping there for a very long time. As a matter of personal experience a much, much better service and courtesy than the previous staff at Bruster's.

Go to the Frosty Caboose in Chamblee for ice cream. They serve Greenwood ice cream made right in Chamblee on Peachtree for many years.the Frosty Caboose is across from theChamblee City Hall along the train tracks in Chamblee. Pam the owner is a wonderful and civic minded person. Support your Local businesses!
