At a retreat last week, Dunwoody city officials decided to ask the leaders of Brookhaven, Chamblee and Doraville to consider joining together to form a fire department.
Dunwoody officials believe such a department would provide better fire protection to those cities than DeKalb County currently does, according to the Reporter Newspapers, without an increase in service fees.
Brookhaven leaders were quoted in the article as being interested in the idea, but both Brookhaven and Dunwoody leaders believe such a department is a few years down the road.
Recently, the city of Dunwoody explored the idea of creating its own fire department.
This is not the first time that the idea of three or four neighboring cities joining forces to provide regional services has come up.
During Brookhaven's cityhood debate, the idea of a regional jail, supported by Brookhaven, Chamblee and Dunwoody, was debated.
