A project to cover the spectator areas at Murphey-Candler's five girls softball fields may be completed in time for opening day or soon thereafter.

According to Cullen McClure, president of the Murphey Candler Girls Softball Association, raising money for the $22,000 project began last year, and projections called for a three-to-four year campaign before enough money was raised.

However, some large donations last summer and fall made it possible to complete the campaign much sooner.
