Darwin Award: Robbery Suspect Forgets to Smoke His Weed

A robbery suspect was arrested after officers found marijuana in his possession.

Officer Alex Cushenan of the Chamblee Police Department reports on some recent crimes:

  • 2/21/13 - suspicious activity report, 3300 block of Shallowford Road, 3 pm.  Officers responded to a suspicious activity call and met with a young female and her father. The female advised that she had just got off of her school bus when two older males made inappropriate comments towards her.
This student did exactly the right thing; she quickly made the decision to approach a group of females and asked to use their cell phone. The girl called her father who came to the scene and notified police. I’m very proud of this young lady; she kept calm, made a decision to flee, and did so to a group of moms who were more than willing to assist.
  • 2/21/13 - theft by taking, 3500 block of Shallowford Road, 5:30 pm. Complainant advised she observed the suspect enter her business and act suspicious. I always say to trust your feeling, especially if you’re female. A woman’s intuition is the same as a police officer’s sixth sense. She finished with her customer and noticed the male had left. She then noticed that her coworker’s dark orange Michael Clark purse was missing. The complainant went to the front door and watched the male run away. The suspect is described as a  male, dark complexion, 5’9", average build, wearing a puffy style jacket, black pants, grey beanie, between the age of 25‐30, had bulging eyes, a spider web tattooed on his left ear, other tattoos on his neck and on both inner forearms.
  • 2/21/13 - auto theft, 4300 block of N. Shallowford Road, 2 am. Victim had security footage of the suspect driving away with his vehicle. The victim stated that the vehicle was taken from his garage. An hour after the report was made; Cobb County Police advised they had the vehicle stopped. The new driver advised that he was the dealer who sold the vehicle to the victim and when the victim did not make the payments the dealer located the vehicle through GPS and recovered it. CID Auto Theft is investigating.
  • 2/21/13 - aggravated assault, 3100 block of Chamblee Dunwoody Road, 3 am.  Victim was leaving an establishment when he was attacked by two males. The suspects struck the victim with a cement slab in the head. Officers responded and assisted the victim who was transported to Grady.
  • 2/23/13 - burglary, N. Hill Parkway, 12 pm. Victim stated that he returned to his apartment to find the front door kicked with clothing and a flat screen missing.
  • 2/24/13 - entering auto, 4800 block of Buford Highway, 1 pm. Victim stated that he was away from his vehicle for 30 minutes and upon returning he observed the passenger side window shattered. A Sony Laptop, suitcase and passport were reported stolen.

Moron of the Week

2/26/13 - robbery by snatching, simple battery, marijuana possession, 5300 block of New Peachtree Road, 1 pm. Victim reported the robbery in the afternoon, then in the evening he called back and notified police the suspect who robbed the him of his cell phone was in a laundry mat. When the officer arrived he observed the suspect drop something on the floor. The officer noticed that is was a rolled-up joint. The suspect stated that he had already sold the cell phone.
