Reader Poll: Should CinéBistro Lower its Age Limit?

Patch wants to hear your thoughts

Nearly one month ago, CinéBistro at Town Brookhaven opened to an eager group of patrons touting its luxury in-theatre dining experience.

But many patrons were unaware that in order to enjoy the plush lounge, oversized chairs (and in some theatres the chairs come with ottomans), and wait staff that brings dinner, drinks and dessert right to your seat, they must be at least 21 years old.

Sorry, mom and dads: This is an adult-only affair.

No, no, no, no. There are plenty of theaters that allow children.

And there's no need to apologize to mom & dad, they're able to attend the theater without their children in tow. Hire a sitter.

Rick, I agree. I love the idea of an adult-only theater. :-)

No! It's nice to have a QUIET theater where you can actually watch a movie and not have to be bothered by kids talking and babies crying. There's room in town for both types of theaters. Variety is the spice of life.

With Oglethorpe University a stone's throw away, I think they are missing a lot of business. It would also be nice to see a movie with my 18 year old daughter, when it is literally in my back yard. Oh well, Hollywood 24 is not that far away...

Gretchen, that's certainly a good point. I, however, hate to go to noisy theaters. I love young people, but attending a movie with the room full of 16-20 year-olds would not be this old lady's idea of a good time. LOL!

Why apologize to moms and dads? Not all parents are bullies imposing their kids on adults wanting some adult time at restaurants and theaters. Those are the people who scare younger adults about parenting. There was a time where people understood that you did not take kids to movies or dinners after a certain time. Not anymore. Hence, establishments like this have become a necessity. My husband and I, and MANY of my friends, are parents and it is because of this that we love adults-only establishments. Why pay for a sitter and go to an adult place only to have to deal with someone else' kids? And sorry Gretchen, but an 18 year old is still a teen. Sure, if cinebistro allowed 18 year olds, Oglethorpe students would come. But adults like me, who will spend significantly more on their food and drinks will leave and the negative economic impact would be worse. Finally, I'd like to note that only a minority (as to numbers) of parents are against adults-only places. Based on many of their postings and oral, public proclamations, they appear to be the ones who raise kids the rest of us are trying to escape!

If it is a "kid" movie, then I would be ok with that since adults wanting adult time won't be in that theater. And those movies are not usually at the later time slots, but during the day when adults are working. Moms can take the kids during the day:) Everybody wins!

Praise God for adult venues. This wouldnot be an issue if others knew how to behave but babies will cry and kids will talk & run around. That's why the other 99.9% of the world is for you. Leave our little .1% alone!!!!
