Publishing House Seeks Brookhaven Authors and Historians

Arcadia Publishing is now accepting proposals.

A South Carolina book publisher is seeking authors for a new history book on the Brookhaven community.

Arcadia Publishing Senior Editor Elizabeth Bray in charge of Georgia projects said she is looking to partners with individuals or an organization to begin the project.

"Our mission is to make local history available to everyone, reunite people with their past, and celebrate the faces and places that give America its spirit and life," Bray said.

Bray said authors do not pay for the publication of a book in any way beyond the submission of a completed manuscript. Arcadia pays royalties based on the net receipts of book sales and offers authors and organizations the option of purchasing books at a deep discount for fund-raising purposes.

Bray said there is no deadline to submit a proposal, however writers will need to contact her in order to obtain a proposal form for submission. Also, authors are able to set their own deadlines in the proposal. In addition, authors need to send approximately 10-20 sample images and captions.

Authors are paid a royalty of 8 percent on the net sales, and have the opportunity to earn more by purchasing books at their option at a discount.
