Patch Watch: Briarcliff & North Druid Hills
Besides being one of the toughest right turns around, the curb is broken apart from years of neglect.

I first made the right turn from Brairwood Road onto North Druid Hills (across from Brookhaven United Methodist Church) decades ago, in my grandfather's Oldsmobile 88 ... and promptly found the right rear tire dragging itself up onto the sidewalk.
Over the years, I haven't gotten any better at making that turn. It's tough enough to make when the intersection is clear, and there's no margin for error when traffic is heavy.
This intersection is one of the tightest right turns in Brookhaven or Chamblee. It's also one in dire need of some serious trash pick up, as these photos taken Tuesday, July 9, clearly demonstrate.

The neighbors around there are obviously horrible citizens, they obviously haven't been squeaky wheeling enough and need to get off their butts to get the county to fix this. Why hasn't the church organized rallies about this????? ;-)

YesGang biased paper reporter (RABBLEROUSEREPORTER) couldn't be more unfair to the county. Why not speak of the trash and potholes in other cities such as chamblee and doraville zandy springs and parks in dunwoody. These other cities don't even clean up their own debris from rotting playgrounds and bridges. Such a a the park bridge collapse in Dunwoody! There is no money because the cities cost so much more. Laughable attempt to not focus
on the huge upset to yes gang yesterday. Typical Yestactic! the liar calling everyone else a liar. Then key some poor lady's brand new car after yesore loosers lost debate this week just because she had a NoCity.org sticker. Who will get their car keyed next because yesslicksters just got the bombshell right in the kisser today with DeKalbs budget approval, NoCity Dekalb residents save $189 / year now and way below other silly good ol boy cities where they take 20 minutes to show up when someone is shot in the gut with a shotgun like CHAMBLEE.

You do realize that just because YOU want to pack negative things about OTHER cities during this time before the Brookhaven City vote, it does not mean they should because it does not fit into what they are reporting about--namely Brookhaven.

Professor's psychotic break may be the result of the summer heat, coupled with a six month political war of words. an occupational hazard, yet to documented.
Civic pride in the form of community clean-up days is all well and fine, but I am not willing to spread hot asphalt during the dog days, as depicted in the iconic movie 'Cool Hand Luke.' However, Paul Newman will always be HOT.
Dekalb never reduced it's Operating budget after the Dunwoody incorporation, even though the cost to service 50,000 residents was eliminated. The 'squeaky wheel' discussion is moot.

Bill Charter: You do know that appointed officers are not the same thing as elected officials and that the Mayor and Council people are elected officials.
And thus the language you cite from the City Charter, Section 1.03(b)(33) allows the City Council to provide employee benefits to Appointed Officers and Employees but not to themselves or to the Mayor.

With incorporations: the sad reality is every Department of Dekalb should have downsized: Personnel, HR, planning, parks, police, fire, so on. But thye did not they Raised taxes 26 percent.
Fulton has got it right. and they are equally fragmented by party and north sotuh YET THEY VOTED DOWN A TAX INCREASE AND HAVE HELD THE MILLAGE RATE STEADY FOR YEARS!

There may be large trees near there but that's pattern of destruction to the concrete is not from tree routes its from a malfunctioning curb and heavy trucks driving over the sidewalk.

Mr. Eric, the malfunctioning curb and sidewalk disintegration are the result of MARTA buses. The standard MARTA buses do not appear to be full on that route and I am surprised they did not assign a shorter version of the standard bus in their fleet for this route.

Eddie, I admit while the sidewalk is in very poor shape at least there is one and its passable, so its not near the top of my list for wanting a city.
And yes that cars and trucks seem to not be able to drive is not the County's fault. (I don't think that corner is that hard to navigate without running over the curb)
However I do think the county could come in and lay new curbing and concrete. Though if the city happens the county doesn't need to worry about it since that will fall under the proposed city functions and thus the county can focus its energies on other issues.

Yes it gives the power to the council to create regulations regarding that. Which most other cities also have that power. I suspect DeKalb does.
Would the council create such regulations? Would they be enforced? Would the regulations apply to all property or just to commercial property and not residential? Could the Regulations just require properties to keep the sidewalks clear but not require the actual laying of concrete? There are lots of interesting scenarios that we as citizens with direct input to our council people can develop. Though something tells me that regulation won't be the first order of business.

But, Ms. Mesh, with all due respect, YOU have built this little article on Brookhaven Patch showing a corner that could be repaired and have tried to transform it into an issue about whether or not we should have a city!! Sorry, I do not get the connection at all. And Mary's comments are spot on--desperation and paranoia is not the hallmark of confidence in your position.
The article was about a corner in Brookhaven--no innuendo. No references to a city or lack thereof. No need to mention other cities. Talk about someone trying to start a Tempest in a Teapot.
