Replay Patch's live coverage of Monday night's Brookhaven runoff debates.
Zoning, code enforcement, a new police department, parks, and how to reach out to Brookhaven's Hispanic community were among the topics covered Monday night during a public forum featuring most of the candidates in next week's runoff elections.
Mayoral candidates J. Max Davis and Sandy Murray; District 1 candidates Rebecca Chase Williams and Kevin Fitzpatrick; District 3 candidate Kevin Quirk; and District 4 candidate Joe Gebbia were in attendance.
Not present were District 4 candidate Karen Lord and District 3 candidate Bates Mattison, who had a representative present at the discussion.
Patch brought readers live coverage of the event, which you can replay above.

Per the Patch a question was asked about background checks:
8:03 - From the audience: If a background check were performed on any of you tonight, would we find any felonies, etc.?
The actual question asked was:
“Many employers require a background check as a part of consideration for employment. If a background check were to be performed on any of you on the panel tonight, is there anything in your past such as felonies, DUI charges, arrests, etc.”
Jerry Max Davis: “Nothing in my background”.
J. Max . . . Really?

7:37 - Gabriel Sterling: “J Max got the highest rating from the Brookhaven Peachtree Community Alliance...that's what the organization is called.”
Anyone do research on J. Max Davis? Mr. Sterling, how about you? Mr. Sterling, do you see what I see?
I understand that realistic research on J. Max Davis calls to question the standards of the Brookhaven Peachtree Community Alliance. Additionally, looking at their website, clearly, they are have been disengaged from Brookhaven issues for some time now.
Shall we refer to you as Rip Van Sterling?

The evidence is undisputable, distinct and evident. I welcome any libel actions Mr. Davis would like to bring. It will give him an opportunity to correct his answer to the previously referenced question last night. Additionally, it will give me an opportunity to quiz him about some additional interesting information he has not told us about.
Yes, the question was humorous. Why? Because it takes a brash individual to run for political office and think he is immune from his past being exposed. Everyone that has known him for the past twenty-five years knows exactly what I know. Apparently, his past meets with their approval.
Let not your heart be troubled, Mr. Davis will win his seat as mayor. Then my friend after his first year in office your face will flush as we laugh at you!

If you know something about a candidates background that would change how folks would vote. SAY IT. Don't elude to it, don't use innuendo, just SAY IT. What evidence is indisputable about Mr Davis' background?

Go to On Line Justice System DeKalb County, use the name posted above, and do your research.

Note that this is just for DeKalb County only. What really surprises me is that no one else has performed their own research on these candidates, especially the groups promoting cityhood.

Alborg,
Your planted question that you have just quoted from your script was interrupted by laughs and guffaws from the audience so I believe Patch reported it right. Nobody in the audience heard what you have in your script so you just blew your cover. Desperate.

How about this one from last night? “Do you support the public-private model for city services (other than police)?”
J Max and all other candidates answered, “Yes.”
Sandy could not bring herself to say ‘yes.’ She did not give a direct answer, but hinted that she still believes what she stated on June 27th: ‘being in unincorporated DeKalb County all this [sic] years has, to me, been the best of all possible worlds…’

Here is another question that would have been interesting to hear: “Were any of you paid for work performed by either campaign for the cityhood referendum? If yes, explain.”
J Max and all city council candidates: “No.”
Sandy: “Yes. I was paid by No City Brookhaven. As I admitted at a previous forum, No City Brookhaven paid me to perform ‘data manipulation.’ However I do not like to talk about that anymore because I now claim I was for cityhood”

Maybe the better question would have been saved for last: "How many times have you lied about your opponent tonight?"
J Max and all other candidates: "Zero."
Sandy: "At least two times. First, my desperate comment claiming J Max has received $20K from vendors. I know it is not true, but I like to say that because it sounds scandalous and it takes time to dispute. Also, it draws attention away from the No City leaders who financially support my campaign. Second, I lied when I said J Max told a police officer they would be hired. This is my effort to cover for my lack of participation in city planning or volunteering for a committee. There just was not enough time; you people can’t appreciate how much time it takes to resist a new city and hard it is to foster discontent.”

Listening to Sandy Murray last night makes it so clear she has no business being the figurehead of our City. If she is elected, which she will not be, Brookhaven would be the laughingstalk of the metro area. She has no clue how to answer the questions asked of her, and relies on her desperate and lame attempts to smear J. Max as her only "contribution" to these forums. Further, the fact that she is relying on out of staters and non-Brookhaven residents to do her neighborhood canvassing speaks volumes about her lack of support amongst the people of Brookhaven. Good to see J. Max Davis stand head and shoulders above his opponent last night. Looking forward to calling him Mr. Mayor in a few weeks.

The very intelligent voters of Brookhaven will see through Ms. Murray's smokescreen to realize she is a pawn, a puppet of the NOCity DeKalb County Democrat bureaucracy.

Sandy "I just want to be elected to something" Murray clearly showed last night that she is not up for the job. She is not a leader and was an adament follower of the NOCITY group. Looking forward to December 5th when she can go back to wherever she came from. J. Max might crack 2/3.

I must say I was trying- desperately trying--to be impressed by Ms. Murray last night. From her inability to keep the microphone near her mouth so people could hear her...to her attempts to gain some traction against Mr. Davis by making spurious accusations, she just comes across as meek, desperate and unsure of herself. She really does not come across as a leader. If she were to win, it makes me wonder who REALLY would be Mayor.
And I am being sincere when I say I was trying to see what her supporters see in her. Other than she representing the "non- J. Max", I fail to see what she brings to the table.
She had ample opportunity to tell everyone about all the mayors, council members and police chiefs of other new cities she has met and consulted with, but she did not. Because she has not. She did not even go to the Georgia Municipal Association "training" session provided to all candidates--mayoral and council members. Yes, I know her campaign says she already knew everything because she had attended the GMA sessions in years past, but why would she not go for a refresher? If not for appearances sake--which you would do if you really cared.
The council members, mayor and city manager will have to do alot in a very compressed period of time. And, at the very least, J. Max Davis has been doing his homework for the past two years.
Sandy Murray was hoping the City would not pass at all three months ago. Not alot of time for doing much homework.

Couple things. J Max has been framing out the city making promises in lieu of support under the careful guidance of Mike Jacobs. Secondly, J Max has indeed been talking to detectives and other officers about working in Brookhaven. He has taken it upon himself to be Mayor Pro tempore without actually being elected Mayor. He has taken the voice of all of us into his own mouth, spoke and acted on our behalf and again has made "friends with benefits" with vendors and lobbyists. With J Max it's all about J Max. With Sandy, we will all have an opportunity to be heard and considered. Bottom line.

My main issue is public safety. We can still maintain the quality police we have now and fulfill promises of manicured parks and streets of gold if we emulated a few locales: Berkley Lake, Sugar Hill and Buford. Sadly no one seems to really be really addressing the options. We are on a path to a downgraded police service. I do not endorse the creation of an ineffective small police force and below are two examples of why I support maintaining our public safety from the county.
"Over the last 8 days the North Precinct CID detectives have arrested 13 individuals responsible for over 20 burglaries and 2 individuals responsible for 5 entering autos. The incidents cover the area from Embry Hills to Druid Hills spanning the Buford Highway corridor."
Then this arrest which looks like it came from some of the county's specialized detectives: Thomas Schloeder, 1169 Chambord Way, Brookhaven, Ga. arrested for Sexual Exploitation of Children.

If catching a boogerlar is stopping a public nose picking THEN that is top notch police work. "DK can't even do an accident scene right!" I'm not sure what your trying to convey; they can't wreck right or did an accident investigation not go your way? I tried a roadside arguement once with an officer over an accident and I still got the ticket but it didnt convince me to create more govt. We sit in the middle of 5 million people and a Mayberry police force isn't rational.

Mr. EPU, the small, local police department will be an issue. The fast and free flow of information between police officers will slow when you have two police departments involved regarding crimes and suspects common to the county and city. And, all you have to do is look at DPD and their handling of the Abbott and Sneiderman murders and wonder what our police department will be like.

"Police, Zoning, Hispanic Outreach"
Is it not long past high time for the "Hispanic Community" to reach out?
Hispanics can start by inisisting to our pubic office holders guarantee the legitamacy of their own governance by fulfilling their own obligations of office and bring the MxGov to task for its incorporation in the State of GA, USA, and its receipt and use of even our own voter registration forms.
They should also be reaching out to have our public office holders refuse the election or appointment of public office holders burdening themselves and everyone else, including Hispanics, with such blatant violations of confict of interest as "dual/muliple citizenship" sought or conferred---including police.
Until then "hispanic outreach" can only be regarded as code for further infringment upon the very sovereignty of our own elections, the very legitamacy of our own goverance and expectation that Amercians, and would-be, be subject to foriegn goverance including the authority of any public officer so conflicted.
