First the bad news: For seven months, I completely ignored - albeit unintentional - the new(ish) Goodwill Donation trailer at 3974 Peachtree Road next to McDonald's. According to Goodwill's media specialist Rashida Powell, the trailer opened July 1, 2011, and is opened 7 days a week from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Now the good news: I finally noticed it. For those of us who live closer to Peachtree Road than the traditional donation centers, this is very convenient.

I'm not endorsing Goodwill over any other non-profit. I regard them all equally and l think they all do excellent work. If you're like me, however, and frequently have extra furniture, clothes and other wares that clutter your space as you constantly accumulate more stuff you don't need, this is a convenient location to make a drop. It's also cool to know that the location is open a little later for those of us who work beyond 5 p.m. and want to obtain a receipt for tax purposes.

Powell told me that last fiscal year, I was among Goodwill's 1.6 million donors and that the items we donate are resold in the Goodwill store to raise money to train people for jobs and provide career services for those who are unemployed or underemployed.

Sweet.
